I will tell you what worries me the most about Funny Cide.
Even when he was in bad racing form, he always zoomed in works, too damn fast, but he zoomed.
This last work well...... I don't see a work where the trainer wanted to have him retired afterwards as a good omen.

Stop twisting the facts. You know Cornelio told him afterward that he pulled him up to keep something in the tank for Saturday. After his Belmont debacle years ago, this work was a good thing. Funny Cide loves this track. He will run huge.

Maybe they were just prepping him for this race 2 weeks after getting crushed in a grade 1? Nostradamus, whats going on over at the Tagg barn

"I had him in the Kentucky Horse Park by the time he got to the gap, but when I got back to the barn [Velasquez] he was so excited," Tagg said. "I said to him 'What's wrong with him?' He said, 'I just eased up on him, the race is on Saturday.' "

This race has always been the plan since the Woodward. They did not want to run in the Woodward, but the owners did. The original plan was Hawthorne and an overnight at Saratoga. Another horse that was crushed in that grade 1, NaughtyNewYorker, won yesterday.

He loved Rumspringa today over on the selections thread. He loved Showing Up agaisnt his elders last week.
Funny thing is that Tagg had a great Saratoga meet with some nice priced horses and he never touted any of those.
Near as I can tell, he only likes the one who lose.

I am in the know because I know people in the barn. Tagg doesn't tell me anything directly. He just says hello because he knows my face. You can go sit outside at belmont any morning, right past the finish line and find out anything I know. I just get to go by the barns because I know people, especially people in the vet village.

Showing up was in too tough a spot, and Rumspringer had no chance in that field today. Even with the clean break he would have been ground into submission.

I had a bunch of Tagg horses this summer but he brings all them to Saratoga so I miss out. I will bet his girl on Saturday too because the monster is not in there. Rumspringa was 12-1 and I said he would run well, not to bet him. He did not even do that.

I did very well with his 2yr old Saturday, but lost most back on Showing Up.

I was not allowed to give out his 2yr old. It was no secret, everybody knew about him. I helped him open at 5-2. Oracle even said Martin told him about the horse. I do not give out live 2yr olds and never will. He does have another.

So what do you think of Smarty Jones as a stallion?

Gander 09-14-2006 05:55 PM

How many different riders now on Funny Cide?
Awesome Twist will be way overbet, he is so overhyped off of one win in a race loaded with speed that set up for him on a tee. I cant wait to bet against this horse on Saturday.

I don't really talk about them, but there is a super one out of Green Dancer mare.

Does your family have any idea that you are disgracing a name that good on that internet?
I bet not. They'd probably strangle you if they did.

What name am I disgracing? I know what I should not be posting and I never post anything to embarass anyone. Most think I am pretty smart, but I am the math wiz, not the pedigree wiz. I don't have the eye that my brother or cousin have.

Thanks...I know the Douglas MacAurthur was scheduled for opening day at Belmont, as it always is. I also know that it is not an " overnight " stake. The race I am referring to was run at Saratoga, the track you claimed the Woodward was the only race for Funny Cide, and I pointed out that the overnight stake, at SARATOGA, was another, and more realistic, option.

If Funny Cide ran in the race at Saratoga that he belonged in, the overnight stake and not the Woodward where he had no chance, he would have been a big favorite and probably would have won. So what if he lost. It isn't as though anybody actually considers him a top horse anymore. The idea in placing horses is to find spots that if they run their best races they can win. If he ran the best race he is capable of NOW in the Woodward he might have been fifth.
