right, or a nose or 3rd on a biased track.....sun king is a gr 1 performer, smarty could get 12f, albeit not QUITE as well as turd..i mean, birdstone.

sun king, if kept in training (and i see no reason to think otherwise) will get a gr 1 win. eventually....

i thought he would take a step back after his last, but that was a pretty good step 'back'....he ran a good one.

Bounce?! yeah some bounce. Typical of some of the ridiculous stuff people come up with. He raced very solidly yesterday and is at or near peak form.
He'll get a gr1 win one of these days.

It's funny, I've never been a big Sun king fan, but he has won me over this year. And I needed him in the Met Mile and the Whitney, for nice scores, so i was obviously pissed that he lost. But he lost giving it all he had, which is all I can ask for.

Same like you, I never saw that much in him. But he has made an unmistakable move forward this year after leaving Florida. His last 4-5 races are unlike anything he has done previously.

I'm glad for Zito that this horse has come through for him.

The thing that always makes me leary of the Sun KIng style of running is he has to have the race setup correctly for him. I admit I am partial to horses that dictate a race, but they dont come around very often. Bernardini right now comes to mind, and Smarty Jones, Ghostzapper, MIneshaft. But by God this horse is as tough as they come. The pace was decent but not that hot and he still tried to close on the leaders. It was a great effort. Now please rest him.

From your and Danzig's mouth to God's ears, Jim. :) I think he needs the race to set up for him, and it just hasn't been his day... yet. I adore him (I'm stupid for the Charismatics) and I hope he gets his G1.

Since he's not all that fashionable a pedigree, what do you think are the odds Farmer will run him as a 5-year-old?

Granted, he is not one that can just take control of a race and dominate it. But after all, very few can. If he stays healthy and retains his form he's going to get his GR1.

i'm hoping they keep him out there, esp if he doesn't manage a gr 1 win the rest of the year. he's right THERE. it will do wonders for him at stud if he can get it.

a lot of horses need a perfect set up. very few are able to run well regardless of the way the race plays out. war emblem immediately comes to mind! he either won or was off the board in every race. no joke!! if he got eyeballed, he backed right up, had to have the lead. very, very few who are tractable, rateable, truly push button. they ruin it for all the others!
