In looking at Borel's career record, he has only won three riding titles at a major venue (and all came at Churchill Downs, in 1998, 2007 and 2009). He had relatively few (for a potential Hall of Famer) major stakes wins before 2005, and even those since then are mostly on two horses (Street Sense and Rachel Alexandra).

A lot of people are trying to draw an analogy to another sports figure. I'd suggest "Big Shot" Robert Horry, who was reknowned for his clutch shooting as a member of 7 NBA chamionship teams. However, he only averaged about 8 points a game during his career. Is he a basketball Hall of Famer?

You have a vote?...I agree by the way.

Now if he wins the Triple Crown, we have a different conversation.

Kent Desormeaux 2004 ---just for that phone call the other day I am in favor of this.

No, but I think you can guess which way I would vote if I did have one.

Big Shot Bob was at the Derby last weekend, so that does seem appropriate.

Like today's win of 600,000 for the Belmont was another "Mike S:zz:mith " accident:eek:

Paid 28.00 to win:D

But I would hope they stop basing the Hall Of Fame for Horseracing based on number of wins. I think Russell Baze would fit my argument.

Pretty much have to agree, his riding skills will be secondary if he doesnt win the big races.

Yes Calvin should be in the Hall of Fame and it should mention that being a mud lark helped him to the winners circle.

Watch Russell Baze ride today and if the young riders can still put in the effort that he does to win they to will deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, provided that they dont act like Cory Nakatani.

You give Russel Baze the horses that other Hall of Fame riders had and Baze would have also won with them and if the roles were reversed I dont think a single rider in the Hall would of got the wins Russell got with the horse he rode.

Kingturf 06-06-2010 09:00 PM

Answer this; How come when Russell Baze a.k.a Baze Meadow or Russell Gate Field showed up in BC or triple crown races he did nothing? Hell I recall several top notch horses he had mounts on did absolutely nothing. Before Ron Hansen was found on the rocks below the Golden Gate bridge. Baze was just racking up wins on the fair circuit and low level 5k claimers. I will always have a lack of understanding how this guy made it into the Hall of Fame. Then again, this was the first year you did not have to pick one from each category.

Decent rider yes....great rider....hell freaking no!

Borel should be in the Belmont Park Hall of Shame
