:tro: :tro:

I mentioned that in another thread. I thought he wasn't going to hit the board let alone win the damn race.

That said, I have nothing but love for Richard Grunder.

The best one ever was when he was pronouncing the "t" in "Promise Me Merlot" race.:D :D

I like Grunder -- mostly because hearing his voice reminds me of shortsleeves and Florida sunshine -- but when he called Karelian "Curly Anne" a couple of weeks ago...

I mostly find Grunder comical but he has the reading skills of a 3rd grader.

You really think I would mispronounce 'ecclesiastic'?

One name I did botch recently was Jeranimo's as I heard him called Jerr-a-Nemo early on and can't get it out of my head.

That is kinda like Watchmaker always calling Barbaro...Bar-bear-o.

I once called Farasino farr-uh-see-no until I was informed that it's pronounced Far as I Know.

Then there's that horse that Rick and Sydney Dutrow had named Youbethecan. I always looked at him and thought "You be the can" when it's "You bet he can". Crist mentioned the same thing a while back in his blog and I laughed because I saw the name the way he did.

Sidebar: I just looked him up, and Youbethecan was last seen at Suffolk in October, trained by Marcus Vitali and running for a nickel...

What about the newest Finger Lakes invader for the winter that's been scratched a number of times, Twnytonitonfrtyone?

Dave Rodman (And/or Delaware guy) called him 'Bar-Bear-O' in his first two starts maybe... I have the audio here on a CD from the tribute we did with Matz after he was put to rest.

I feel that most announcers are worthless. But Grunder is totally worth it. He is pure comedy.

That's right....the Laurel Futurity. Rodman is very underated imo. Still love his 2007 Preakness call.

We all have our pet peeves I guess. Durkin used to drive me insane when would pronounce it Kia-a-wah Cat instead of Kee-a-wah Cat.

That's because you're Italian. It's farr-uh-see-no to me, too. Like a guido last name.

A recent entry at Ellis was "Callmeanicepick". My wife, who worked for an ice company at the time, bet it because she thought it was "Call me an ice pick".

She sure is purty, tho.

I remember him doing the 1986 Derby call broadcast on ABC.

cakes44 03-16-2010 10:36 AM

I'll have to look that one up...had to be brutal. That's a lot of "GAINING GROUND" with 20 horses.
