ArlJim,
To my way of thinking, the real tragedy is that REAL NEWS is happening today but the mainstream media is so fixated on Paris (and perhaps the distracting of the American populace from "reality") that maintaining and supporting continued ignorance perpetuates the insanity. All the major networks are clogged with this nonsense.
Go figure.

"sob, sob, sob"........

And everyone thinks this is funny!
A few thoughts and more importantly a few facts:
1) attorneys and judges who are members of the California bar have been interviewed and say that 45 day sentence is extreme for ANY defendant, usually in such cases, probation is continued or at most, a few days in jail (3-6). This judge has shown repeatedly that he's making an example of Ms Hilton.
2) The media continues to imply that her getting credit for 5 days is "unusual"...absolutely wrong! In the 10 years I worked in corrections in Pa, the law was clear...you are incarcerated on a day, you get credit for that day regardless of the time, same with discharge...you can be discharged at 12:01 am on discharge date. Hilton was admitted in the late evening and discharged early AM...she (or any other inmate) gets credit for those days.
3) She was apparently (according to reports) examined by a psychiatrist (not psychologist as CNN keeps saying) and found to be clinically depressed and close to a "nervous breakdown" (not a psych dx, apparently close to a psychotic break). Once documented...this put extreme pressure on authorities...forget it's Paris Hilton, is it worth risking severe psychological damage to an inmate over 18 days??? Think of the media response if something happened to her, think of the lawsuits and most importantly...think of the person!
3) CNN originally reported that she was a "no show" for court today...turns out it was a "pissing contest" between the Sherriff's Dept and the judge and only after the Dept caved in to the judge was a car sent to pick her up.
4) It is obvious that most of this is a power struggle between the Sherriff's Dept and the Judge...there was no testimony in court today about her medical condition, the judge was obviously upset at the sherriff's Dept and he slammed her again! This isn't justice prevailing, this is bare naked political powerplaying.

somerfrost 06-08-2007 02:46 PM

Oh...and while the networks originally reported that she was taken from the court screaming, reporters actually inside the courtroom later reported that she was sobbing throughout and let out a rather loud sob while being escorted out...hardly the same type of behavior. Anything to sensationalize a story!! There are just so many errors in reporting here that it reaffirms my distrust of the media!

"Yeah, yeah they should give her the taser, the taser, the chair, THE CHAIR!"

The sad thing here is that the truth is being hidden under an avalanche of media frenzy and hatred toward a perceived "spoiled rich brat". I mean did we really need network coverage of her transport today? And all the misinformation being reported...all pandering to the public's "bloodlust". What we are seeing is not justice, it's politics and pandering...sad situation!

People want to blame the media...but if it didn't sell or prove good for ratings they wouldn't do it. So, I blame everyone. The general public. Me, you and Tigger, too. And even moreso, I blame the teachers, and specifically retired teachers. Those louts.

LOL! I agree that the media is giving the people what they want...which is a sadder commentary yet! But in they zeal to "out-scoop" everyone else, a lot of misinformation is given out!

Let's not overanalyze this for the sake of being outside the box...justice was served today & hopefully she'll have to serve her full sentence. Hats off to the judge.

LOL! You know it's coming..."lets not over analyze this"...sure, why should we care, emotions are a better path to the truth than critical thought.

LOL as well!
I read the quote you put up in your post, as I usually don't read what this one posts. Heck, is this the same guy that started a thread about "hairy anuses"? It figures. My guess is that the "mods" (wink, wink) only ban those they disagree with. Certainly ban-worthy, imho.
Now this idiot blames teachers and retired teachers for Paris's plight.
It figures much more!
Luckily, I'm no longer retired. Besides breaking and training horses, I now have an exploratory committee working on my candidacy for US Emporer,
oops, Presidency. Will be announced on "Meet the Press" in Oct, if Gore
decides against.
Now, back to Paris. That gal needs a good spanking. I'm trying to contact her agent to provide suitable remedy to that boney little bottom.
Rumor has it that Kentness is languishing at her digs while he awaits her return. Seven days, max. O/U?

DTS vs Baba, round???, god, I forget...like an old time bare knuckles fight that goes on forever!
This is one of those interesting threads because it gives so much insight into our mindsets...!

Hey Somerfrost,
Just a "heads up"...be careful of those sanitation workers that got themselves fired for taking snacks home for dinner from the back of the truck before the sweeper grabs it into the big box.
It's garbage, man! Garbage Man!

Sure, to his boss he said, "I was only hungry."
Don't believe it any more than his boss did.
He's just too lazy to dumpster dive.
Unemployed sanitation "workers" have all the excuses.
Mark my words.
The also have an affinity to Ron Paul.
Is that "nuts" or what?

LOL! Completely neutral here!
By the way...don't know why but with all the news coverage today and this thread, I find myself humming an old Joni Mitchell song...anyone guess which one?

C,mon you guys! you demean yourselves by this protracted cat-fight! I enjoy both of you most of the time, but jeez, the baiting and bs should be stopped. I,for one, don't enjoy car accidents.
