Winning Colors was the third filly to win the Derby and the 21st winner to have done what in running the race?

Halo... sired Sunny's Halo and Sunday Silence (both Derby winners.) Also sired Goodbye Halo, Oaks winner.

Very interesting that Goodbye Halo won the Kentucky Oaks in 1988 with Pat Day aboard... one year later, Pat Day would be beat in the Derby riding Easy Goer by another offspring of Halo, Sunday Silence.

Both Goodbye Halo and Sunday Silence were sent to Japan.

I can't remember- did War Emblem wire to wire it? Would that make 22 total who have won wire to wire, or was WC the last one?

Damn, and I saw that race, too... getting senile in my old age.

philcski 04-24-2007 12:17 PM

How many UNIQUE states have a Derby winner been foaled in, and which state has the lowest (human) population of those represented?
