Sometimes you got to have a little class and think about the position some people are put in while doing the jobs they have been told to do. Thats civility and courteous.

That is the problem. Baffert wasn't thinking of the little guy.

But then again this country lets OJ get away with murder, MJ with child abuse, etc... Why shouldn't Bob be able to get what he wants?

IMO, Bob could have handled the situtation with more tact. I like the guy, but he could have went about the situation a different and I think that is why he is apologizing.

More tact? Sure. Have you owned a horse? Do you know how frazzled you can get on race day. I ave seen people that don't smoke light up a whole pack. We can't have any idea what he was going through with three to saddle and three groups of owners to attend to. Again give the guy a break. CD's fault entirely.

The owners and trainers are the customers of the track. Without the owners and trainers there would be no track. The customer is always right!

You, my friend need to get off your high horse and understand the facts. Having class is saying good luck to the other owners and trainers and then accepting the outcome of the race in a dignified manner--WIN or LOSE.

Umm without the tracks where would these trainers race their horses. There are 140 thousand people on Derby day. 139k of them are drunk. You have to have rules to protect the horses, the trainers and the owners. The tracks job is to provide a safe place to race horses. It isnt their job to kiss ass.

You still dont get it.
Saying its the tracks fault does not give one the right to pick on some guy that is just doing what he is told to do. It may be track managements fault. But how in God's name does ripping the badge and shoving some dude who is told do this job this way? How does this solve the immediate situation?

Its like yelling at the airline ticket pass people because the airline itself made a mistake. The person behind the desk is not responsible for the screwed up management or computer glitch. And it is ridiculous to sit there and yell at someone who has not control over the situation. Its very typical of people that dont have a clue about another persons job, and if they do, they really dont care and take their frustrations out on THE WRONG PERSON.

We will never see eye to eye on this issue. Good day to you. I said good day!

It very well could be CD's fault. I have been frazzled and done things that I could have done more tactfully had I not been frazzled and running in circles. Just saying that Bob could have called someone or asked one of his numerous friends to handle the situation or many numerous other things. Not necessarily that he did anything wrong, but that he could have handled it differently. That is the reason he is apologizing.

Look I am sure having Bode as a guest wasnt a last minute thing. They have to make sure they are available that day. Baffter had plenty of time to get the credentials. If it was a last minute thing, Baffert prob said "don't worry, I am Bob Baffert and I can get you in." Then the guard said no and Baffert was embarrassed. That is what prob happened.

Management says " let him the hell in then!"

Even at the level I am involved in this game and the horror thaat is Magna. We have brought up to 8 people to a free 4 person luch when you run in a listed stakes and they comp it all. For twice the allowed number of people. CD should have kissed Baffert's a$$ for even making him upset at the Derby. If I am Baffert, next time I have a super horse and the racing secretary from CD calls him up to see if I'll run in their race, I wouldn't even answer the phone.

yep!!!!! I'm

LMAO... I doubt he was embarrassed. He was probably frustrated because he was in a hurry and the guard was wasting his time.

Obviously she hasnt seen or witnessed anyone in such a situation and how hectic they get. And talk about drama, Baffert is comparable to OJ over that? WOW, that may be the most dramatic analogy in history.

Pgardn,
My guess is that it was "high stress" day for all concerned.
The rent-a-cop coulda used his walkie talkie.
Baffert coulda been more courteous.
Seems to me that this thing got out of hand way too fast.
So, $500 and an apology ends it...ok.

Oh I bet he was embarrassed. To have a little security guard tell you NO and you are Bob Baffert and you just gloated to your friend that you could get him in, of course he was embarrassed. Who wouldnt be. Look Churchill has be around for longer than Baffert and trust me, Churchill could care less about Bob Baffert. Baffert needs Churchill far more than Churchill needs Baffert.

They don't get it Tbred. The reason Cajun does is that shes seen similiar things with Nascar. They also are trying to play the pity party issue with teh security. What they don't realize is that on Derby Day they choose the head honchos to stand guard at the only two entrances to the paddock. These aren't pitiful guys. They are supposed to be the crackerjacks of the crew. And they certainly knew who Bob was. They said his guests couldnt pass, when the proper thing to do was to get on the walkie talkie pronto with head of security and tell em what was going on while placating Baffert and his guests with please just let me get approval.

Your opinion of Cd is much higher than everyone elses. Baffert needs the place like he needs a headache. he runs Derby week and maybe ships in a few horses the rest of the meet. Don't ever forget that its a B track, not a A track. It sure as hell ain't del Mar, Sanat Anita, Belmont, or Saratoga. How many grade on races do you run there a year at Cd? Do you even run 10? My guess is more like 5. The others I named run a whole lot. Nice place, great facility, awesoem folks but its not an A track.

PSH 06-23-2006 02:16 PM

A Rated Tracks

Agree Oracle.
Only other track i would add to A list is Keeneland...

Not an A track but has the A race of the world. That pretty much trumps anything else. Baffert doesnt run many there and I wish he would. But he wants the one thing each year and that is the Derby. My opinion of every track is high. I love all tracks. And I think they have rules in place for the better of the track and its patrons. Everyone knows that the situation could have been handled better. Everyone has had this issue but we go ripping and yelling at someone. Plus, why does Bode need to be in the paddock anyway? I think the paddock should be for the owner(s), trainer and his/her assistants and that is all.

pgardn 06-23-2006 02:24 PM

This is very interesting study in human behavior towards others.

It gives me a clue as to who would go ripping a waitresses arm off because the food was bad. Dont leave her a tip because the food stinks mentality.

Personal experience, but obviously not that of horseownership royalty:

I was given a pass to help out at high school graduation at the Alamodome. I forgot my pass. I was walking in with the principal and other teachers and was told by security I could go no further. I immediately realized that this guy must make sure I work for the school, otherwise I might go wandering around this huge place that gets packed with 60,000 people for conventions, and plant a bomb or something else. And that his job was to keep people out who do not belong. I walked all the way back to the car and got my pass and apologized upon my re-entry.
"No he is with us BS... forget it." I'll get my pass and make things easier on everybody. A little accomidation, a little humility goes a long way. I would think business people understand this. The tracks and some trainers think otherwise.
