There are no fine handicappers on HRTV, unless one goes with that Segal dude . . . and I just can't.

I have HRTV and TVG but these guys, they're not world class handicappers. Not like you and Steve. (Though MrB, on TVG is mighty good.)

By the way, do all these good folks know that Harvey Pack calls you Little Andy? I love the man.

Grits, Frank does not own Youbet. He owns Expressbet

He does, you're right, and I realized this after typing. Thanks for your post.

Before ANYONE signs up, someone that is involved in this should talk to their people at Youbet and see if they can get a special for getting these people to sign up. Youbet has a monthly fee after 6 months or something, I bet enough to get it free, many here would get it free through their betting though

Congrats and good luck on the new show Andy. Try to be a little more opinionated. As far as the discussion on equipment, maybe you could go into detail about the different types of shoes. Such as caulks, do they really help? When horses are wearing aluminum pads or bar shoes should we be weary? Also any type of pedigree help when it comes to the 2 year old races at the Spa would be helpful. I know you don't like those races, but there are just so many of them that any little bit of info would help.

Thanks....I'm working on the opinions. It's so against my nature that it's not easy.

I really appreciate the ideas, from you and everybody, as these are things I hadn't thought of and they clearly need to be addressed at some point. I will have to look into maybe getting an expert on shoes to come and do a segment for us. The breeding discussion is one I have to think about more as it is very important to me to try hard not to be at all misleading and I think breeding can sometimes hurt as much as it helps. But I will certainly give it a lot of thought.

Andy

I'd be ecstatic to have you explain how to use formulator 4!!!!

Actually though I would love to hear you comment on when NOT to play a horse you like because the price is too short.

Good luck with this new venture Andy....

Youbet.com

Youbet.com is currently offering a 60 day free trial. Usually I use Capital OTB, but they have suspended on-line streaming for unknown reasons. I find with Youbet I can concentrate on the track(s) of my choice, with live video streaming, current odds, payouts and even replays. A better product than I have been getting from CapitalOTB.
Looking forward to the addition of "Playing to Win" with what looks like a strong line-up of guest handicappers. Good luck Andy.

Congratulations! This sounds like a lot of fun.

Is there any chance that these show will be available on Youbet to non-customers? I live in NJ and can not open a wagering account with TVG, Expressbet and while I have not tried to open a Youbet account I assume I can not.

We are very interested in thoughts and suggestions as the idea is to not only offer opinions but, more importantly, try and help make all of us better players. Any ideas for topics anyone here would like to see discussed would be most welcome. Also, I imagine we will offer a way to communicate through Youbet and they should be setting this up shortly.

Here are a few ideas:

When are the strategies of playing multi-race wagers using multiple tickets preferred. In other words when is it better to play multiple tickets vs. going wide on a single ticket, especially in pick 3s and 4s?

How to determine if there is a bias on a given day? Sometimes it is very obvious but other days it is more subtle. What are the tell tale signs that there is a bias? I know reading the charts of races and watching replays helps but what if the track was "modified" between cards?

MisterB 02-27-2007 07:55 AM

How to find a race with Lone speed. Sometimes this is over looked. Don't over look the obvious. This has killed me many times, until I finaly caught on. A horse that can break, set the pace, and just put their heels to the on lookers.

blackthroatedwind 02-27-2007 10:35 AM

We will definitely have segments on playing exotics and constructing tickets. Hopefully we will be able to use Steve Crist's expertise for those topics. I will also definitely cover biases and my thoughts on their overestimation.

Finding " lone speeds " is a great idea and something that definitely should be addressed. Perhaps it is part of a bigger " race dynamics " conversation.

I bought his book when he was at Belmont, exclaiming "if you've written this entire book dedicated to the pic 6 play........no, I don't want it!" He laughed, "no, no, its not, trust me."

hoovesupsideyourhead 02-27-2007 04:10 PM

how about..the key race ..myth..or at least not as many as people think..
and trouble trips..what are you really seeing..and of course..trainer intentions....finding bad favs..

blackthroatedwind 02-27-2007 04:15 PM

I will definitely talk a lot about my opinions on what makes a key race and how I disagree with most people's labeling of such races.

hoovesupsideyourhead 02-27-2007 04:18 PM

great ,that point should draw some fire..but i know you not shy of incoming..and will dish it right back..lol

If you live in New Jersey you can not sign up because of the state requirements. Is there a way to see the show or is there a way to sign up to the site even though you can not bet with them???

I'll find out. When I get back from Las Vegas I should have an answer.

Wouldn't you agree that pre-speed figures the "key races" were the ones that invariably would be a big-fig (for the level) race these days? It's almost like it's an expired idea.

I'd like to hear your opinions on evaluating firsters at various points of maturity (i.e., Saratoga 2YO's vs. GP 3YO's vs. Aqu inner 4YO's.) There's nothing I'm worse at than evaluating potential off workouts.

Darrrr7 02-27-2007 05:49 PM

blackthroatedwind,

Thank you for getting me this answer. I very much enjoy the info you provide in the DFR Plus video sessions on Saturday morning. Thanks again

I doubt it Andy. If you can have them 'burn' you a copy of the presentation, I am sure someone on here has the IT capability to put it on a site somewhere, possibly even on DT somewhere as long as Byk ok's it

I appreciate it. I'm just afraid that my run of good opinions on that show will come to an end when I start doing the Youbet shows. I sure hope not.
