A "converyor belt" condition on a race track is when there is a speed favoring bias. That was not the case today....

Your analogy makes no sense.

Are you sure it was 3 seconds faster? What is a normal track nowadays anyway??

The conveyor belt just happened to be in the 5 path

Was it a normal track earlier this year when Bob Black Jack set the 6f record?

TheSpyder 10-25-2008 08:32 PM

Thanks as I don't have days like these often.

Had a pick 3: 1 (Midnight Luke) x 2 (Conduit/Eagle Mountain) x all, so watched the Classic knowing I won no matter what happened and was happy with Ravins Pass.

No that is a joke too. If you want to believe that the tracks at Santa Anita are normal or have any relation to what has been run over for the last 100 or so years fine. I am not a synthetic track hater either but thinking that any track or stakes records set at Santa Anita this year has much validity is silly.

John Murtagh=Jamie Spencer revisited

I don't know what it is but I thought this guy was a brillant rider, after this weekend its apparent that he might of cost alot of Coolmore horses a win. I don't know what the hell this was thinking on his rides today. They would of been better off having one of the Hefferman brothers ride first call. I hammered all of their runners and I am the one who got hammered.

letswastemoney 10-25-2008 08:57 PM

It's a third surface. How can it be compared to past SA records?

good question.

my big question was how do these graded races they've been having retain their status? one requirement of keeping their status is that the conditions be the same from year to year, that obviously is no longer the case on tracks with AWT surfaces.

Worrying about track records or final times, is silly IMO.

So when a track decides to re-installed its turf/sod, which numerous tracks have done over the years, should they lose their Graded status as well?

Seattleallstar 10-25-2008 09:05 PM

Curlin would get his ass handed to him by Zarkava just like Rags bitched slapped him in Belmont

yikes being in Cali I thought you wouldnt have to deal with that weather hassle. So how did you make out today with the horsies

pba1817 10-25-2008 09:14 PM

I'm in Wichita KS(no OTB or tracks near here) and I will be on the road for the next 7 weeks for "work".

you're not seriously trying to compare replacing grass with grass, with removing dirt and installing wax, sand and rubber?

I still believe he just isnt as great as his fans believe him to be and has been fortunate to run in the era of the worst older horses, probably ever. He is a very good horse but not in the top 50 of all time and certainly not the best of the last 25 years. Clever Trevor, by the way, would be a full fledged star nowadays.

i agree with your post in its entirety! no doubt you'll sleep better knowing that. ;)

Danzig 10-25-2008 09:23 PM

one question i have...after seeing how the classic went, how would zenyatta have handled the race?

It was a bad ride, plain and simple. He sorely misjudged the pace and was out finished by 3 horses, not 1, but 3!!! Getting out finished by 1 would have been acceptable, simply a better horse, but to be out finished by 3 and Tiago as one of them.... not good at all.

i think the they was garrett gomez if i remember correctly.

Danzig 10-25-2008 09:25 PM

well, imo-which means nothing to the graded stakes committe, i don't think it's comparable. the only thing the main track has in common with the old main tracks that were real dirt is that they still aren't green.

track surfaces changes dont merit a downgrade I believe

worrying about and not recognizing arent really the same thing. If the times are so unimportant then why do we bother keeping them?

herkhorse 10-25-2008 09:42 PM

At least the times and splits were correct, and not triggered by outriders.

OTB did not " give " Steve anything. They gave an opportunity to their good customers. Steve took advantage of it, and used his skills to make money for those customers.

i just think that if a race can lose it's graded status when a race is moved from turf to main for instance, that the argument could be made about changing from dirt to awt. it doesn't matter tho, it won't happen.

Jerry...I can't think of a horse in this world that Zarkava wouldn't bitch slap. She is a freak of nature.
