Who Cares!!

It's the freakin' Breeder's Cup!! Today I don't care what Manny is going to do!

OK, I've finally let loose. It feels good to join the ESPN "Basher's Club".

Now back to enjoying a beautiful day. :D

Maybe 1:11.60 is not hard to fathom, the internal fractions are. I think that is why DRF has not posted them yet in their results page. However when the race was being run, it was hard not to notice it may have been off.

21 is not unusual on that course

Goldikova....

Champion 3-year-old filly?

Just tossing it out there. Just thinking out loud.

Jeannine Edwards was talking to Joe Torre in the paddock and started asking him about re-signing Manny Ramirez. At the time, I really didn't give a rat's a**.

Just letting some steam off.

booner 10-25-2008 02:46 PM

Fantastic race from her, but not Champion 3 yo filly.

Curlin is NOT the best in 25 years.

The guys on ESPN really need to stop acting like the mythical title of "best horse in 25 years" hangs in the balance today. Regardless of what happens today, Curlin is not the best horse in 25 years. Just compare his speed figs with Easy Goer's:

Races with BSFs of 115 or higher
Easy Goer: 9
Curlin: 1

Races with BSFs of 120 or higher
Easy Goer: 4
Curlin: 0

Now, speed figs aren't everything, and the Dubai trip complicates the comparison a bit, but it is obvious that Easy Goer towers over Curlin. When you then factor in that Easy Goer was arguably only the second best horse from that crop, it becomes pretty clear that this idea is ridiculous. Curlin is clearly a good horse, but even if he wins easily today, he is not the best horse in 25 years, and I wish guys like Tessitore would stop pretending otherwise.

The sport, or the World Series? Either would be a valid question sometimes. Oh sorry, that was my inner-bitter-Cubs-fan snarking.

But today, Curlin will bow with the rest of the world to the new King, Casino Drive.

After today, millions of formerly non-believing oafs will begin to draw comparisons of Casino Drive to the great thoroughbred champions of his royal bloodlines. You have to go 8 generations deep in Casino's pedigree before finding a single inbreeding trait.

Casino Drive = Secretariat + Seattle Slew + Better Than Honour + A P Indy + Mineshaft + Mr. Prospector + Northern Dancer (CAN) + Deputy Minister + Nasrullah + Bold Ruler + Turn to (IRE) + Blushing Groom (FR) + Mint Copy + Native Dancer + Traffic Judge + Victoria Regina (CAN) + Buckpasser + Nashua + and yes, even + the immortal Man O War.

Casino is the best bred race horse to ever call planet earth home. And today, he will claim his birthright crown!!

Hank and his piggy bank wagers. No respect at all. ;)

In all seriousness, you do realize not all of us can gamble? I mean a lot of people they're trying to reach can't do anything as far as wagering goes given our locations. If they stopped to explain why they went with a certain pick 6 I'd probably zone out. I really don't care. I know other people do but as the typical betting image is one of an old guy smoking with his head shoved in the Form at an OTB, good luck romanticizing betting. The handle seems to be doing pretty well as it is and in the economy we got now, you really wanna be trying to use this as an opportunity for newbie folks with a family to use what little disposable income they may have on the next optional claimer at Santa Anita? The money for ESPN and ABC is in the sponsors. They'd much rather I take my dough and buy Grey Goose vodka to drown out Hank, then to take that same money and lay it down on the BC Classic. The big gripes are things like attendance and since people can bet without going there, what you wanna do is promote the sport itself. I didn't get into it for love of the exacta, but for love of the Black Stallion. It's in the stories. Human and equine interest stories... the bettors that are already out there know their importance. They don't need a shout out from Kenny and Randy beyond what they're already getting-- and I most certainly notice the occasional betting plug so you're getting it whether you realize it or not.

funny you should mention the Cubs. When they had to throw the world series to the Padres because they didn't have night baseball at Wrigley I quit watching.

bogus homerun derby didn't bring me back and I really don't care if they play until Christmas

Rudeboyelvis 10-25-2008 03:59 PM

Is there any way possible (offshore, whatever) to bet this horse to come in last?

... Please say it is so.

Dr. Mush is about 87% touting a horse to win only to have it come in last or second to last.

At the risk of coming across as greedy, please tell me you've got the Phillies tonight :$: :$: :$:

Midnight Lute, phfew!

Holy crap. I always liked this big, beautiful horse but are they gonna mention, ya know, the new stakes record? 1:07:08. That's more than 3/5 faster than Kona Gold. I guess the whole synthetic thing adds a new factor to it but this horse is just brilliant and breaks track records in workouts. Shame he couldn't deal with the breathing issues to run in the Classic. I know they'd looked at it after last year's Sprint win. I'm glad Real Quiet's got one like this. Is he gonna retire now or do they have anything else in mind?

Dr.SwineSmeller 10-25-2008 04:40 PM

Absent minded...

There is no mention of the great Colin, (who retired undefeated at 15 for 15 at the turn of the 20th century), because Colin is not part of Casino Drive's pedigree.

But, Colin's sire, Commando gives a 10x10x11x11x11x11 Casino Drive influence, with most of that influence passed on by Peter Pan. And isn't it ironic that Casino Drive DOMINATED his great great...granddaddy's namesake stakes race at Belmont Park, The Peter Pan?

Furthermore, and I may be mistaken, but I'm thinking Colin produced no offspring.

I said I'd return for the Breeders' Cup. Back a couple of months ago I said I had made two future wagers for Breeders' Cup Day. I was touting Zenyatta, and Casino Drive. I made no further bets. Yesterday, I cashed. Today, I cash for profit.

Other than in the mile, horses are having trouble getting home on this course. Luckily (thank you LUTE) the race didn't cost me. I do think the horse was aided by a course that is favoring raters (probably because they want the Euros back next year.) You will never see Funky tire that way late down the hill again. This is not the normal turf course we have here. It's been manipulated for this week.

he did have progeny. or pedigree query put a whole list of someone else's sons and daughters under his name by mistake.

Dancing Forever, great story

He hussled at the end and got 3rd. I knew that call with him in 4th wasn't gonna hold. What a great story. I know they didn't expect him to win but after the story with Dancinginmydreams and the Barbaro-like injury. I'm sure mama's proud of her first foal.
