Like I said earlier...you were still in diapers.

Kiri came along, as usual, to bail you hopeless cases out.

Yeah, Canaveral won by a pole, I think, in his debut. As I recall his career ended shortly thereafter.

Where did I say colt?

Of course I meant Heavenly Prize.

When someone says debut I assume debut means first start ever.

The Indomitable DrugS 12-20-2006 05:56 PM

he said "What top 2YO ( and later top 3YO and 4YO ) made its debut on that Florida Derby card?"

Reading comprehension skills will tell you he meant seasonal debut.

KirisClown 12-20-2006 06:01 PM

After losing the What a Summer, Heavenly Prize would go on to lose the Prioress to what horse? She was named after one of the stars of Laverne and Shirley...

I knew it wasn't a dirt male...so I started thinking turf males who had run a big race at age 2.

The horse who beat Heavenly Prize that day retired 3-for-3. She's also a half sibling to the unraced Silvery Swan...who's dropped El Corredor, Silver Tornado, and Roman Ruler. Do you remember who trained her?

Yes but then someone asked him to clarify age I assumed he meant three year old, etc. Whatever.

Especially when I clarify it later in another post.

I don't even remember her name but I think she wired the field as the 5-2 second choice. Could she have been trained by Happy Alter?

Yes, that was the What a Summer stakes at Gulfstream....

I was reffering to the Prioress winner, later that year..

The pacesetter that day was the immortal Fred Bear Claw...who had a lovely following on message boards from the "pretty horsey" types.

However, he was no rabbit...as he was not connected to the connections of either RQ or FH..he actually managed to hold 3rd.

You are correct, now that I think about it, he wasn't a rabbit, my fault...

but that's a pretty good memory you have...

oracle80 12-20-2006 06:21 PM

Owned by Port, green and pink silks I think.

KirisClown 12-20-2006 06:22 PM

Yup, that's her.. I believe she died later that year.

oracle80 12-20-2006 06:24 PM

Sidney Port owned her right?

blackthroatedwind 12-20-2006 06:25 PM

Sounds right.

KirisClown 12-20-2006 06:28 PM

Edwin Wachtel owned her when she won Prioress.... Port must have purchased her afterwards. He's listed as her owner in the Test stakes results...

I just remember silks and colors. Took me a second to place those silks, they looked sorta like Juddmontes

The 1999 Hollywood Gold Cup was a four horse field, featuring Real Quiet, Budroyale, 'Big Cap' winner Malek, and Gr 1 'Donn Handicap' winner Puerto Madero.

Real Quiet would wear down Budroyale for the victory. However, the best performance of the day would come an hour later...when this Frankel trained runner would run seven furlongs in 1:19 4/5ths. Breaking the track record by an amazing 3/5ths. Name him....

Gee....Mazel Trick?

The Indomitable DrugS 12-20-2006 06:38 PM

Yeah!

The mighty MT!

Real Queit got his ten furlongs in 1:59 3/5ths in the Gold Cup. He was 1 1/5th seconds off the track record.....and only the 4th fastest Gold Cup time of the 90's.

It's not like the track was out of this world fast when MT went off that day!

Real Quiet wasn't exactly a world beater.

Out of random curiosity....when did trainers start using EPO?

oracle80 12-20-2006 06:40 PM

What 1-5 shot destroyed many players in running pik-3's on the undercard of the 2002 Wood Memorial in allowance race when he threw the jockey at the start of the race?

Pointg5 12-20-2006 06:44 PM

Mott horse with Bailey up, trying to remember, think he was a Storm Cat...

What horse caused a Racing Times writer named Kurt Paseka to have to pose naked in the infield(he covered himself in the strategic area) for a picture that was published in the Racing Times, by winning the Seneca Handicap at saratoga one summer? Paseka had stated in his selctions column that if this particular horse won that day, he would dance naked in the infield(the guy had guts, he actually did it)

Im pretty sure he did... he had flashes of brilliance, but couldnt seem to string together his big efforts. More often than not, he was a disappointment.
