finally a little respect

Thanks for mentioning Officer Rocket in your 3yo category. Had he not displaced in the Iriquois (which he still beat two of the seven horse field under extreme shortness of air!) I have a feeling he would be getting more respect. He is an amazing class horse who will be able to go the distance! |

i completely agree -- and i believe that the prices are going to be right all spring! |
I'm looking forward to the Hollywood Prevue on Saturday. There are a few colts in there with a ton of potential. The two that I will be most interested to watch are Notional and Belgravia.

He certainly needs a break, he didnt need those last few he ran in. Tueflesburg that is

Yeah I think we talked about that. She told me she was going to give him all the time he needs. Which should be about 2 months.

TIZ WONDERFUL, CHANGE UP AMONG RISING STARS NOMINATED TO CLOSING DAY JUVENILE STAKES - Stonestreet Stable's Tiz Wonderful, winner of the Iroquois (GIII), and Richard, Elaine and Bert Klein's Change Up, impressive in defeating fillies in the Pocahontas (GIII), head their respective rosters of nominees for the $200,000-added Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) and $200,000-added Golden Rod (GII), the co-featured races for 2-year-olds on the Nov. 25 racing card that will close out Churchill Downs 21-day Fall Meet. The two 1 1/16-mile races for 2-year-olds are the featured events on the meet's second "Stars of Tomorrow" program dedicated exclusively to races for 2-year-olds. The unbeaten Tiz Wonderful is one of the brightest young stars on the list of 29 2-year-olds nominated to the 80th running of the Kentucky Jockey Club. Trained by Scott Blasi, the son of two-time Breeders' Cup Classic (GI) winner Tiznow romped to a 6 ¾-length victory in the one-mile Iroquois. He had rolled to a 12 ½-length victory in his racing debut in a 6 ½-furlong maiden race at Saratoga in early September. Other notable nominees to the Kentucky Jockey Club include Lucky Seven Stable's U D Ghetto, winner of the Kentucky Cup Juvenile (GIII) and a troubled seventh to Street Sense in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (GI); ***Gary Logsdon, Donnie Kelly and Jamie Sanders' Teuflesburg, 10th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile***, but a close second to Scat Daddy in the Sanford (GII) at Saratoga; Claiborne Farm's Passport, winner of the Miller Lite Cradle at River Downs; Patricia Blass' Run Alex Run, third to Circular Quay in the Bashford Manor (GIII) at Churchill Downs; Darley Stable's unbeaten Day Pass, winner of the Nashua (GIII) at Aqueduct for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin; Thomas Van Meter II and Maurice Miller's What a Tale, runner-up in the Iroquois for trainer Patrick Biancone; and Michael and Mary Kindred's Going Ballistic, winner of the Remington Park Magna Entertainment Mile on Oct. 20 for trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel. The nominees to the Kentucky Jockey Club include impressive recent winners in Minefield, unbeaten in two races for trainer Todd Pletcher and owners Starlight Stable and Donald Lucarelli; William S. Farish and E.J. Hudson, Jr.'s Grasshopper, a sharp maiden winner at the KJC distance for trainer Neil Howard; and Winchell Thoroughbreds, LLC's Zanjero, an allowance winner for Blasi that has won two-of-three career starts. Change Up leads the roster of 28 2-year-old fillies nominated to the Golden Rod off a career record that includes three wins in five races - including two stakes wins - for trainer Steve Flint. The Kleins' homebred daughter of Distorted Humor also won the Mountaineer Park Juvenile Fillies before she threw in her only poor effort, a seventh-place finish over the slop in the Arlington-Washington Breeders' Cup Futurity (GIII) at Arlington Park in September. John Velazquez is scheduled to ride Change Up in the Golden Rod. Other nominees considered likely for the Golden Rod include Mike Rutherford's Cohiba Miss, the winner of the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies who was excluded from the overflow field for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI); Zayat Stables' Baroness Thatcher, sixth in the Pocahontas after being excluded from the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies; Bentley Smith's Lady Joanne, third in the Pocahontas for trainer Carl Nafzger; and Joseph Novogratz' Pro Pink, runner-up to Datrick when she faced males in the Kentucky Breeders' Cup during Kentucky Derby Week at Churchill Downs. Also nominated to the Golden Rod are three fillies that competed in the Breeders's Cup Juvenile Fillies. That group includes Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's Appealing Zophie, fourth to Dreaming of Anna in the Juvenile Fillies; Bruce Lunsford's Bel Air Beauty, eighth on Breeders' Cup Day; and Sarum Farm's Gatorize, who finished 12th out of 14 fillies in the Breeders' Cup race. ...what a surprise, he's nominated to get crushed again - as is Pro Pink, a filly they have who also has a load of ability but probably won't last long with the campaign they are putting her through.....shame  I'm sort of confused...did she come from the Nick Zito school of training or the D. Wayne Lukas school of training? |
No chance he runs

1. Street Sense
2. Tiz Wonderful 3. Circular Quay 4. Nobiz Like Shobiz I think those four could be shuffled any way. |

She seems to be forcing success instead of doing what's right by the horses....I think she can definately train fine, but she may want to campaign her stock a little lore realistically and let success come to her. |
I agree with all mentioned. Here's a few more to keep in mind: Any Given Saturday, Dilemma(speed on the west coast), E Z Warrior, Ravel, and Sahara Heat. I also have several on my watch list that are working, but have yet to run. I also have several high priced colts with great pedigrees that have yet to work. These, I'm afraid are not going to get the much needed foundation, so will not be considered as Derby contenders by me.

2)Any Given Saturday 3)Manny,Moe 4)n' Jack |
This crop doesn't have any real standouts. That's not saying it won't produce one by Derby -- only that right now it looks iffy. I think you can throw out the entire BC Juvy field. Nothing there.

if we are projecting forward to their 3yo years....i think great hunter deserves some more respect. i know his only significant win came over the tires, but this is a very consistent colt on the dirt too. out in cali he was trying to close over their speed tracks in races that were between 6f & 7f. that is not a formula for victory for most Aptitudes.
he is solid now....and most Aptitudes are like their pa and get better with age and increased distance. i think he could be a big factor in the spring races next year. i'll say: 1) great hunter 2) circular quay 3) street sense 4) nobizlikeshowbiz |

You are completely correct.....I may be a little anxious! And you also are correct that his dam (Ocean View) was able to go the distance. He worked Monday in 1:01 2/5. Galloped out in 15. Not bad for his first work back. He was barely "blowing" after the work. I think he's gonna be a very nice horse in the Holthus Stable! |

I can't believe that I forgot about Notional. I absolutely LOVED that horse after you came on the board and said something about him just after his first race. |

For those interested on this side of the pond, very much IMO...
1) Sander Camillo...exceptional filly, but seemingly not the easiest to train. Not seen since her demolition job at Newmarket in July, and it is to be hoped that Noseda gets her back in time for the 1,000 Guineas in May. Potential superstar. 1) Teofilo...big, gross, unbeaten and dual-Group 1 winning colt, rightly favourite for both 2,000 Guineas and Derby. Arguably had race pan out better than runner-up when pipping HRE in Dewhurst, but seemed to be idling in front and found more when joined. Most exciting. 3) Holy Roman Emperor...very good at his best with a superb turn of foot, shown to devestating effect when winning in France and when runner-up to above at Newmarket, coming from seemingly hopeless position. Has less scope for improvement than Teofilo, but only juvenile colt near him in terms of ability. 4) Dutch Art...impossible to argue with what he has achieved in winning 4 from 4, beating solid benchmarks on each occasion. For all that you wouldn;t want to go overboard about his chances of developing into a 3yo, but then again I said the same about Rock of Gibraltar! 5) Mythical Kid...has achieved less than all above, but of huge potential. Bred to be a worldbeater (family of Divine Proportions, Whipper), he made a highly taking debut when sluicing up at Newbury. Looked likely winner of Horris Hill there next time before idling and caught close home. Stoute sure to find the improvement to which he is open. Big things await. Others to watch out for: Finsceal Beo Mount Nelson Duke of Marmalade Go On Be A Tiger Authorized Passages of Time |
CQuay has to be at the top with SSense.
HW Futurity winner is usually part of the discussion, but obviously not now. Repent |
What exactly is the author of this thread pointing to when they say "top 4 2 year olds." Are you asking who should get the Eclipse? Are you asking who looks best for winning the K Derby? Are you asking who will do best(overall) in their 3 year old year? I think this 2nd wave of 2 year olds is usually where the Derby Winner comes from.It does seem that, to win the Derby, it is best to take the road of Tiz Wonderful or others, and not that of C.Q.,and "Street." The last 3 Derby winners were "good prospects" at 2.They weren't stars yet. They were "working on it," and if you want a horse to win the Derby, then it is probably best to still be "working on it" right now,and not be "there" like "Street" and C.Q. are.
