Was a 10yr. old maiden that lost, I think, over 100 races in a row. It's been a while but if memory serves, he finally broke through at age 11, and the owners retired him.

Didn't want him going out a loser.

I'll see if I can dig up his pp's - He was a badass.

Memory didn't serve.. :\ ....Actually was 70 in a row...but, as promised - I present... Punk

Oh! This is so cool!

When was this? How long ago?

I'd love to see something like this. Old guys are the best. :)

This was in the mid '80s. I was doing a little research thanks to the google newspaper archive and equibase, and I found the 1985 chart for the race, which was won by then 11-year old Pierre La Mont, who wound up his career with 19 wins from 99 starts. The total field finished their careers with a combined 156 wins out of 938 starts and nine of the 10 starters each ran at least 80 times.

my miss storm cat 03-15-2012 08:09 PM

Thanks for digging that out, Rudy. Very cool!

Ranger lets get a time machine cause that sounds like too much fun. You are so lucky to have seen things like that. :)

I'd kill to see races with strictly older gents. :tro:

I just came across this terrific follow-up on El Bomba. He was officially retired after his 5th-place finish in his 101st career start, and Riley's life should be so good! God Bless Him!

9YO Missile Motor (68-19-18-9) is entered in the 5th race at Aqueduct this Sunday.

Look for 10YO millionaire Musketier to soon defend his Elkhorn Stakes title, as he is posting works at Keeneland.

Sightseek 04-16-2012 09:20 PM

11 year old Love's Strong Hart, made his 70th start of his career when 4th in the Webb Snyder Stakes at Charles Town.

From what I can see he's run 10 straight years and all of them under the same connections. http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Res...956&registry=T

11-year old Snatch The Cash makes his first start in a year and a half in the second at Les Bois Park in Boise Wednesday night. Obviously not many pay close attention to what happens there, but he has always been one of my favorites having won 22 of his 44 lifetime starts, incluiding 9 of his last 11 dating back to '09 at Los Al and the CA fair circuit.

my miss storm cat 06-16-2012 04:41 PM

I finally remembered to look... guess she was last.

Maybe you should claim her. :)

What I thought was pretty remarkable about Porfido's win is that he had made 17 career starts, or something like that, on the Hollywood Park turf without ever getting his picture taken! 18th time's the charm, I guess! :D

I didn't bet the race, but when I saw him closing like that in the stretch, I started screaming my bloody head off! It was great fun!

Love those old guys! God Bless 'em! :{>:

I know what you mean. I feel like handing out ear plugs to the people around me when it's a horse like this old guy. :)

I was listening to HRRN yesterday and caught the 4th from SA, where 9 YO Hard Bill came from off the pace to win by a neck with Joe Talamo up. Trained by Mike Puype, he was coming off of a 17 month layoff.

I was checking the Emerald Downs site to see when they open and saw something about Wasserman who I love so much right on the front... with a link to this (somehow missed it).

Figured it belonged here. :)

Nice article! Thanks for linking it, Miss G, and thanks to Mr. Hovdey for the updates. These geldings, racing year after year, are able to establish a fan base that enjoys following them, and they know their job and most really relish it. It must be great to have them in the barn.
