Ooh, Handsome Zulu. Will be interesting to see how he goes. It's been a while since he last ran a good race, though, and that looks like a strong field.

I havent watched it yet but here's the replay (he was 4th).
Next time, hopefully! http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...eno=7&venue=ST |
Finally watched and yeah I thought Handsome Zulu looked good! 4th, but he was right there.
Man watch Race 8 is you get a chance and on the 2nd replay, about 2 and a half minutes through? You can see how close a few of them came to having a really bad fall. I have no idea how Chadwick stayed on Regency Winner. That kid amazes me over and over again. |
Wow, that's crazy!

Oh yeah and to Strawberry who is a standby starter for R8. He is ummm the former Central Station. Soviet Pearl 3rd, Able Speed 5th.
Congrats to the horse with the worst name evah, Good Looking Watch, who is the former Algeciras from NZ and who finally got a win. |

Check it out though... It runs for over a minute (about a minute and a half) before the actual barrier trial starts but man look at Able Charm, the 9, with Beadman up. |
Wow! That was impressive.
Good to hear Algeciras won one. Always liked him, even though he was never one of the very best horses. He did beat Flying Fulton in one race here, and that horse is now looking quite good in Singapore. But Good Looking Watch? Really? |
Yeah... some name.
Heres his win (he paid huge)... http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2011&raceno=02 I looked up his owner to see what other stellar names he had going... Fantastic Time Good Timing (retired) Watchman (retired) ... so at least theres a running theme there. :D Maybe his next horse can be Timetothinkofagoodname. I've never heard of Flying Fulton so thanks... a new one to look up. :) |

But of course it's not just HK that has the weird names. There's a horse here in NZ at the moment called Aluminum Bikerack. Who calls a horse that? Honestly! |

From the HKJC... On 18 February 2010, Marco K L Chui was found guilty of having breached Rule of Racing 60(1) in that a sample of urine supplied by him, as directed by the Stewards, at the Happy Valley race meeting conducted on 20 January 2010, was found upon analysis to show the presence of ketamine. K L Chui's jockey's licence was suspended for a period of 12 calendar months, such period to expire on 25 January 2011. The commencement of this suspension was back dated to 25 January 2010 on which day Jockey Chui was stood down from riding by order of the Stewards. In assessing penalty, the Stewards were cognizant of the fact that Jockey Chui had previously been penalised for breaching Rule of Racing 60(1). At that time, K L Chui was advised that should he submit an application for a jockey's licence to the Club in the future, the Stipendiary Stewards would recommend to the Licensing Committee of The Hong Kong Jockey Club that he be required to appear before them to "show cause" why such licence ought to be granted. On Thursday, 6 January 2011, K L Chui submitted an application for a Freelance Jockey’s Licence for the remainder of the 2010/2011 racing season. At the meeting conducted on 12 October 2010, the Licensing Committee decided that should K L Chui submit an application for a Freelance Jockey’s licence in the future, he would be required to appear before them to “show cause” why such licence ought to be granted. Accordingly, K L Chui has been formally advised that he is required to appear before the Licensing Committee at 10:00am on Wednesday, 26 January 2011 to “show cause” why he should be granted a Freelance Jockey’s Licence for the remainder of the current racing season. * * * Retired... Near the 900 Metres, BLUE SKY and JAMESINA bumped on a number of occasions as JAMESINA shifted out. Near the 600 Metres, MIGHTY HIGH got its head on the side and lay in and in doing so brushed the running rail. Near the 500 Metres, JAMESINA and BLUE SKY (M Guyon) raced tight as JAMESINA shifted out. M Guyon was warned against the practice of extending his elbow away from his body. At the 200 Metres, NOBLE CONQUEROR shifted in abruptly before being straightened by its rider, B Prebble. When NOBLE CONQUEROR shifted in, it bumped SUPER SATIN which became unbalanced and shifted in further away from that horse, resulting in MR MEDICI, which was commencing to give ground, being checked away from the heels of RIDE WITH THE WIND. B Prebble was advised to ensure that he makes every effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 50 Metres, RIDE WITH THE WIND shifted in and bumped OPERATION SECRET. Close to the finishing line, SUPER SATIN and JAMESINA brushed. A veterinary inspection of MR MEDICI after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUPER PISTACHIO had lost its right hind plate. SUPER SATIN, NOBLE CONQUEROR and MIGHTY HIGH were sent for sampling. The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into an incident near the 1600 Metres involving OPERATION SECRET, HOLLYWOOD KISS, MR MEDICI, MIGHTY HIGH and SUPER SATIN until prior to the Sha Tin racemeeting to be conducted on Sunday, 23 January 2011. After the 1200 Metres, TURF EXPRESS was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 150 Metres, SICHUAN SUCCESS was steadied away from the heels of LITTLE BRIDGE (Z Purton) which shifted in when not properly clear. Z Purton was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in future. When questioned, Trainer J Moore stated that he had intended for MILITARY MOVE to be ridden in a slightly more forward position today than previously due to the anticipated lack of pace in the race. He said however that in a telephone conversation with the owner of MILITARY MOVE, the owner was adamant that MILITARY MOVE should be ridden in a more forward position as, in his opinion, there was no speed in the race apart from MULTIGLORY. He said the owner therefore hoped that MULTIGLORY would be able to lead on the fence and MILITARY MOVE would be able to race to the outside of that horse. Mr Moore added that the owner of MILITARY MOVE had explained that the horse was ridden in a forward position when it was successful in New Zealand prior to arriving in Hong Kong and therefore he had expressly wanted the horse to be ridden in a similar manner. The Stewards contacted Mr Stephen Lo Kit Sing who confirmed that he advised Mr Moore that he wished for MILITARY MOVE to be ridden more forward today, similarly to how it was ridden in New Zealand prior to it being imported to Hong Kong. Mr Lo further advised that following the disappointing performance of MILITARY MOVE today, he will discuss with Mr Moore how the horse should be ridden in the future. LUCKY NINE and XTENSION were sent for sampling. * * * Some huge prices especially in the 1st. * * * Captain Sweet wins again (R10). |
Disappointing performance from Military Move. :( Maybe next time!

Before being allowed to race again, THUMBS UP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Passing the 1400 Metres, SUNNY KING got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CHATER WAY. For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres and again near the 1000 Metres, SPECIAL DAYS raced tight inside IRIAN (B Doyle) which shifted in. B Doyle was severely reprimanded and advised that he must at all times ensure that his fellow riders have comfortable racing room. VIVA PATACA got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SPECIAL DAYS near the 1000 Metres. For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, SIGHT WINNER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEAUTY FLASH. VIVA PATACA was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and then passing the 200 Metres was again held up and unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the race. Consequently VIVA PATACA was not able to be properly tested in the Straight. D Whyte (CHATER WAY) dropped his whip near the 250 Metres. Over the concluding stages, IRIAN raced in restricted room between BEAUTY FLASH and SUNNY KING, both of which shifted slight ground. Throughout the race, YOUNG ELITE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG ELITE after the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils. When questioned, D Whyte stated that he had been instructed to ride CHATER WAY in midfield or slightly behind midfield if possible. He said it was felt that the horse had not been finishing off its races when being ridden in forward positions at its most recent starts and it was therefore hoped that if the horse were able to be ridden more conservatively today, it would be able to close off more effectively. He said however in the Straight CHATER WAY got its head on the side and hung out away from runners to its inside and was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CHATER WAY had lost its left front plate and that FELLOWSHIP had sustained a cut to the right front cannon. IRIAN, BEAUTY FLASH and SUNNY KING were sent for sampling. Quote:
I'll watch that one in a bit. :) |

Do you know how Handsome Zulu went?
Man, that Chairman's Sprint field is amazing. |
He was only 6th from 8 (batch 7) but "okay without being asked"... does that mean they just wanted him to have this run?
I haven't watched it yet. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...7.213108790458 Oh figured I'd check something and this is what i found... Vet Records Date Details Passed Date 13/01/2011 Sore right fore tendon sheath (flexor tendons injury). 28/01/2011 KInda wish Ho would give the mount to Callan next time or someone aside from Lai and Ho. So rides him in trackwork a lot... maybe let him have the mount? Ah well... Yeah fantastic field this weekend! Good luck to Sacred Kingdom and Brett! |
I'm a little worried about Let Me Fight, ed.
I just really hope Sacred Kingdom wins this. :) R2, I Smell Money R4, Luminous in a shocker R5, some of the lowest rated horses. God I love them. Who cares as long as one of them gets a win. R7, No pick but good luck to Bullish Cash, Best Friend and Billion. R9, Praising, LOyal Army, Floral Picasso R10, Cerise Cherry (this is such a great field!) R11, lock for the day... Soviet Pearl! R8... Somerday Brave Kid will remember how good he can be, should be, should have been. I love Sweet Sanette... one of the only girls in HK. I'm thinking Sacred Kingdom, Let Me Fight and Green Birdie in either order.
