I don't get it. The song "Empire State of Mind is certainly alot better than "the :rolleyes:Sidewalks of NY".
How can anyone detest ESM with Alicia Keyes singing? Maybe not JZ. But I've seen and heard Keyes performing that song and it is a great replacement for those tired old songs..like Sinatra. |

In hindsight it was a fitting change in light of the lousy coverage by ABC.
Old Blue Eye's "New York, New York" would have outclassed the network. |
I understand that negotiations are underway right now for Roseanne Barr to sing next year's song. The song will be selected by poll of left-handed horseplayers. :zz: "Enter Sandman" by Metallica is leading headed into clubhouse turn.

Do we have any idea what's gonna happen with this year's song yet? Is it back to New York, New York? Or do we have to suffer through last year's debacle again?
|
Neither.
They've predicted wind and it's now cancelled. |

If I had any pull at all .... Presque Isle Downs would play 'The Erie Canal Song' during the post parade of the Masters.

Interesting song.
Sal is a mule! |

It only occurred to me to ask because some horse folks on Twitter were talking about it. I think "Empire State of Mind" was Gov. Patterson's doing. I guess they'll decide on it later. Springsteen did a mean version of Erie Canal at a concert in London. Got them singing along at the chorus which is strange because you don't expect them to know it. |
Book your seats at the Cafe early.

The Sal here, yeah, I knew. As for the song? Never even heard it before! |
The song is as relevant as a 1.5 mile spring race for 3yo without a Triple Crown bid on the line.

Because I know some of you still care...

‘New York, New York’ back at Belmont |

As far as some of us still caring, I heard all the reaction to the song from last year. For all the not caring that's allegedly going on, plenty of people who didn't even catch the network's coverage had an opinion and voiced it fairly loudly as I recall. If they did the same disastrous mess of a performance again this year, everybody'd be tearing them a new one. The song matters. If you (that's a generally directed "you") would like to go back to "Sidewalks of New York" fine, call for that. I swear I couldn't even remember hearing that song when I watched the race as a kid which is strange because it's such a classic. Whatever they pick, I'd like the network to not cut out of coverage early because their ears (and mine) are bleeding. I care when that happens, sorry. |

Time to dust this one off...
