Fantastic day at Belmont today. Even though I wasn't allowed in paddock with my shorts... :o. Minded the Dee Tee cooler from the fence in any event.
Beautiful (breezy) day and great to see everyone again. Optimistic that Lloyd will move back forward in his next start. Anxious to hear reports on Lloyd and Ausable from the crew who visited the barn after the race. Another great day out... GL in Philly tomorrow. |
Some pictures from today
It was another beautiful DT day. The weather was sunny and warm, pretty windy though. A good group of DTers were on hand and Jonathan made a suprise visit from LA! Got to meet Nick's dad and Pat's father-in-law, Tony. Lloyd didn't finish as well as we had hoped, but it looked like he did all of the heavy lifting for the race also. He seemed keen to race during his warm up and it seemed that he was moving impatiently for Edgar during the warm up.
Thrilled that I got to meet Edgar and remembered to bring My Guy Barbaro which he graciously signed as I stuffed the book and a pen at him! Gary and his assistant trainer, Paul were very accomodating hosts. After watching Lloyd's race we watched Paul's horse, Crescent Moon Dr in the 4th race. CMD seems to be vying for most difficult horse in the paddock - wants to wrestle that mantle away from KNS. After the races Jonathan and Dave and I went back to Gary's barn to see Lloyd and the NY filly, Aussable Chasm. Gary has quite a string of horses over there. It was good to see some old friends like Kittylicious and Loyal Shadow. Loyal Shadow is just so sweet - she was "hugging" my firmly to her side and I was starting to worry about bruising but Jonathan stepped in and gently asked her to hug me a little looser. Also got to meet some new friends, in particular the old white horse Grampy - I cannot remember what name he raced under but he is quite imperious. A few stalls down from Aussable Chasm is a Quiet American filly who is quite a looker and friendly as well. Paul said that Assauble Chasm and the Quiet American filly are going to the training track tomorrow - looking forward to the report on that outing. We got to meet the NY filly - she is very sweet. Pretty big girl for such a youngster - she's got a fairly broad chest. Her ground manners are impeccable. Jonathan introduced her to a peppermint which she was not interested in at all. She has plenty of white hair and she looks like she could mature into a strawberry roan. Lloyd seemed fine back at the barn, his forelock was a bit frizzy from his race effort and he managed to bite his tongue and draw blood but aside from that, no worse for the wear. He was happy to have the extra attention and has matured a bit, he doesn't want to put everything in his mouth. I took some pictures - the link is below. You'll notice the barn area - the best I can say about the existing structure is something out of a Lonely Planet guide - it exhibits faded grandeur. There are pigeons everwhere - flying all over the horses, who don't blink an eye. There was a rooster in the loft going on with the most pathetic crowing at 3 in the afternoon. Despite the "faded grandeur" of the structure everything in Gary's barn area was neat as a pin. Every single horse was soft and smooth as silk (and trust me, I touched every one of them, even the recently gelded one!) Thanks to Steve, Gary and everyone else who helps keep the tent pole up in our little circus! http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/...hotos-_-Sharee |
Some more photos from today
http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/...hotos-_-Sharee Another really fun day at the races. Michelle has provided a great summary. Special thanks to Gary, Paul, Javiar and the entire Sciacca staff for letting hang us around the barn this afternoon. Our NY bred filly was really digging all the added attention. Ready for part 2 tomorrow at Philly. |
Thanks for sharing the photos Michelle & Dave.....the description of the day made me felt like I was there! :)

It's actually funny. I didn't know about the shorts rule in the paddock either. When we saw Lloyd on Wood day (which was f'n cold also) I got into the Paddock with shorts on. I noticed people giving me looks (but I just though it's because I'm extremely handsome ), but didn't give it a second thought. Until after the race when one of the security guards told me about the rule. Thankfully we were on the way out anyway.

Seems like a pretty dumb rule.

Come on guys, 9/5 on Redboard? It is just a prep to go longer next out!
|
good run by RBK
|
nice 2nd at 5-1

Forgot all about him. Congrats on the nice run guys. Hope he come back ok.

Great run by RBK to take second...looked much better than his last time out. Nice ride by Tony.
|
Glad to see the result. Congrats to Chuck and Crew!
Now if I could only find a way to watch a Philly replay... |

In my defense, I was NOT wearing flip flops... :D Stay classy, Dee Tee. |

Nice job Chuck and crew. Hopefully this will set Redboard perfectly for his next start, and if on a weekend I may just have to get off of my a$$ and drive down to Philly! :D
|
Great job everyone !
Great job everyone !

Congrats to Chuck, crew, RBK, and partners. Was over at OTB yesterday and wanted to do a $20 show bet, but they weren't doing advance wagering. Didn't have an opportunity to get there today. Damn! But, I'm happy he did so well.

Tremendous improvement over his first start. With all previous comments about him looking like a turf horse who needed more distance, this was an extremely impressive (and not at all expected- at least by me) result. Great job Chuck and all others involved

Day 2 of "Weekend Dee Tee" and though we had a relatively light Dee Tee showing (Jonathan (Unstable), Mrs. Heels and myself), today turned out to be a fantastic cap to this Mother's day weekend.
RBK was on his toes and full of himself in the paddock prior to the race. He looked ready to run and did not disappoint, digging down in the stretch for a very solid second. He came back to the paddock a bit tired and Tony mentioned he still needs a bit more "air" (fitness) but overall he was very pleased with the today's effort. Tony would like to see RBK continue sprinting for a bit til he breaks his maiden and then look for the stretch out and grass. Susan took us back to the barn to visit the Simon string and all 6 horses look great. Missus Mayflower was ready for some attention and any MINTS that came her way. KnS looks like a totally different horse from 2 weeks ago. Her coat is dabbled out and she has definitely gained some weight back. We gave her a few more calories as she enjoyed chomping down some mints as well. RBK looked in excellent post race shape and appreciated the attention and mints as much as his Dee Tee sisters. Ships Cabin, Graphite Halo and Target Practice also enjoyed our company. Big thanks to Susan and Raul for giving letting us hang around the barn for a while this afternoon. Without a doubt, one of my favorite parts of being a Dee Tee partner. Some photos from today: http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/...hotos-_-Sharee Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. |

Great pictures Dave!

Forgot to mention that congrats to Jonathan are in order. He is also a member of Hibuscus Stables and his Lord Greystoke won the 2nd Race at Charels Town yesterday. :tro:

63 Beyer for Redboard King in his excellent 2nd start. What became apparent to Chuck via Tony Black the last couple of weeks following workouts, was that the kid who rode Redboard in his bow simply stopped riding the gelding early on and just went around with him. This was the kind of performance Chuck expected from Redboard first start, and he continues to improve as he builds strength in his hind quarters. He's going to be a nice horse by the summer, and thanks go out to Tony for suggesting this race. The 3-5 favorite would have had to fall down to lose, but Redboard's effort was very solid as he learns lessons. Grass and 1 mile or more is likely where he'll prove best, so this was a great next step in his career development.
74 Beyer for Lloydobler in a run that was actually better than it looks at first glance, as he paired up to his previous best figure which came on the Wood undercard five weeks ago. Having missed a handful of days due to an achy stifle and lousy weather over the last three weeks, Lloydobler tired three-sixteenths from the wire after chasing the first half mile in :23.0 and :46.2. He will likely turn around in 3-4 weeks for a spot that might include a move to grass, and he should be at premium fitness. The problem our Smarty Jones colt faces is that he may being falling into that quirky middle ground between Maiden Special and $50,000-$65,000 Maiden Claiming company. The A.P. Indy-Got Koko son Cocalero who won rather easily, will receive at least a 91 Beyer for his debut. That shows the challenge we face now with the big barns back from Florida, as there may always be a Cocalero, or 2, in every MSW this time of year. Reports indicated that there were really nice groups at both venues, so thanks to everyone who turned out at Belmont and Philadelphia for the fun weekend, and Chuck and Gary for making it possible. |
