I changed my mind, mostly because of price. I'm taking a shot with Hold Me Back to win. I'll also use Friesan Fires as a saver and let the rest of the 18 beat me.

tiggerv 04-30-2009 03:47 PM

I am waiting on the Warren T and Whobet newsletters to arrive before I pick.

Sorry Tigger, Warren T's specialty is the Hambletonian
and being a douche! (and not necessarily in that order)

geeker2 04-30-2009 06:29 PM

POTN is a lock and if he loses I promise that Morty will be banned from this forum !

alysheba4 04-30-2009 06:42 PM

P.O.T.N is a lock.........with dunkirk,i.w.r., in the 2nd slot. then go dunkirk, i.w.r, summer bird, desert, and chocolate candy to round out the tri.

Danzig 04-30-2009 07:29 PM

shouldn't everyone be using friesan fire in their second spot on ex's? jones and porter OWN second place. :)

seriously tho...two days to the race, plenty of time to figure it out. or try to.

randallscott35 04-30-2009 07:35 PM

Not exciting. I think Dunkirk wins.

JohnGalt1 04-30-2009 08:25 PM

Dunkirk, Musket Man--I'll bet both to win.

I'll probably/want to do something underneath with Friesen Fire, Papa Clem(34 bullet 4/30),General Quarters, I want Revenge, and Pioneer of the Nile.

2MinsToPost 04-30-2009 08:29 PM

Musket Man is my 2009 Derby Pick

Will be used every which way in all my plays, which are still to be determined

The Indomitable DrugS 04-30-2009 09:41 PM

I Want Revenge need only break with the pack and he wins.

If he somehow doesn't win ... I wouldn't have the slightest clue which of the 19 remaining horses I all have a pretty steadfastly negative opinion of will win. Some like Dunkirk are more likely than others like Mine That Bird .. but it's one horse that looks like the real deal with no knocks and a magic trainer running against 19 I have plenty of knocks for.

IrishofNDMan 04-30-2009 09:47 PM

On my way to Chicago tonight so I won't get a chance to post or talk derby anymore. Good Luck to everyone playing and have a great Derby Day!

My picks:

1st- Dunkirk
2nd- IWR
3rd- West Side Bernie

I know I'm not really going out on a limb at all, but it seems like I've tried to beat the favorites every Derby I've bet and sometimes you can't.

richard burch 04-30-2009 09:57 PM

Friesan Fire

odbaxter 04-30-2009 10:03 PM

Desert Party on top of Dunkirk, IWR, FF, Papa, West Side, POTN

EX, Tri, Super.

odbaxter 04-30-2009 10:04 PM

Oh Yeah! I forgot Musket Man Saver

i dunno about that. but i'm not as adamant that they should skip now, looking at what he'll be facing. he can certainly handle most of them, if not all of them.

if i had to pick right now, it'd be hard not to go with i want revenge. probably would use gen quarters underneath. his first works at churchill weren't that good, but it appears he's gotten more comfortable with each passing day.

DaTruth 05-01-2009 12:51 AM

Friesan Fire. But I'll be happy if any runner other than I Want Revenge wins.

intense 05-01-2009 01:50 AM

Pioneerof The Nile or Fresian Fire... probably going to change though.

MLC 05-01-2009 05:31 AM

I'm going with Pioneerof the Nile, with Friesan Fire, General Quarters, and West Side Bernie underneath.

2Hot4TV 05-01-2009 06:51 AM

Regal Randsom with a saver on all the other 19 entries.:zz:

i tend not to root for or against (except last year) horses in the derby. i'm not keen on the half owner, or the trainer, but i think i want revenge is going to win. the only gr 1 winner on dirt in the field, how bizarre!

Danzig 05-01-2009 10:06 AM

i'm somewhat surprised anyone is naming 'hold me back'. mott, from what i read after his win in his 3 yo bow, doesn't like his horses chance at all on dirt. he said to look at his remsen 'run'-that the horse didn't have a straw in his path, but still ran poorly. he then mentioned his successes on poly...

Left Bank 05-01-2009 10:19 AM

I will take Dunkirk.

GPK 05-01-2009 12:42 PM

$2 win on Smarty Jones

sumitas 05-01-2009 12:55 PM

Historically I suck at picking Derby winners. This year should be no different.

$200 win - ADVICE

Antitrust32 05-01-2009 01:56 PM

Cajungator26 05-01-2009 06:37 PM

3.) I Want Revenge
4.) Dunkirk

Maybe it is just me, but I thought he looked like he needed to lay down and take a nap he was so exausted through that last furlong here last month.
Based primarily on the way he finished up that race, but also on the lack of stamina in his pedigree, I don't see how the 10f will do anything but hurt him.

Sorry, but there is just no way he holds off Friends Lake down the stretch.

In a work or race?? The horse shows up on race day PERIOD

2MinsToPost 05-01-2009 07:31 PM

tickets have been punched and so I am on record so if it comes thru I will not be a red boarder etc (is that the right name?)

exacta box Musket Man, Friesan Fire, Papa Clem, Dunkirk and Flying Private

win and place bet on Musket Man

Scurlogue Champ 05-01-2009 08:02 PM

Desert Party...

I plan to bet everything I have on Visit in race 8 though, so she needs to win or else I'm tapped out.

RollerDoc 05-02-2009 03:51 PM

I predict the successor to Big Brown as Kentucky Derby Champion will be Chocolate Candy.

King Glorious 05-02-2009 04:43 PM

I went with:
1. Friesan Fire
2. Pioneerof the Nile
3. Musket Man

Would be more than happy to see Pioneer win to shut up certain know it alls on here or one of the Dubai horses to silence those that say that their way will never work.

arizonadave 05-02-2009 04:45 PM

west coast bernie is my bomb horse. good luck all
