In Fat Land, his last race was off the charts. A case where I think others are better but I can't overlook that last race. Then again, I still can't get over his 1st race back this year. |
Good insight. Thanks.

I'm impressed. I printed the pps out as soon as the numbers were up, around 4:15, and other than doing Byk's show for a half an hour, and taking another short break for dinner, I have been working straight through....and I still have another hour or so to go. You're fast! |

what do you do with benny the bull ? class wise he lays over this group, but everyone knows horses always dont come back from dubai the same, most horses need at least a race back... the only thing is this field IMO, did not come up that deep or talented... what does everyone else think? then there is abraaj who comes off of a layoff, and runs gigantic, horse he beat has since came back and run huge.... but abraaj is stepping way up, the only other time he raced against this class did not end up good for him. |

give him another chance, Hoss spread some of that wisdom the boy wants to learn |
The first race on Belmont Stakes Day will be worth watching with the Woody Stephens Stakes in mind. Commandeered was close to the pace in the sprint on Preakness day and was passed by Silver Edition. If Desert Key runs, he was very close to the lead throughout that 5/14 overnight stakes @ Belmont where they ran a hole through the wind through the first part of the 6 1/2 furlong race and finished the final 1/2 furlong in 7 seconds.

Just got through the Just a Game and Acorn and was struck by the possible pace scenarios of these two races. In the first there seems to be no pace horse except Bayou's Lassie, who showed last out just how dangerous she is when loose on the lead. And in the second, all the runners look like they want to be on the front-end, except Golden Doc A; will they set it up for her finishing kick?

In track and field or cycling events, the field typically DISREGARDS the rabbit. They know the rabbit is only in there to set an honest pace and never engage him. ONLY in horse racing do others feel the need to engage the rabbit. Wonder why that is.
Your theory would be a good one IF there weren't any other closers in the race. |

OTHERS are not the jocks in most cases. The OTHERS are horses. The comparison is asinine. You need to get on the back of a horse who wants to chase a rabbit. I would love to see you settle a 1000 lb animal who wants to go, instead of skinny tubes of some carbon fiber that has no mind of its own. BTW, dogs feel the need to chase rabbits. That being said there are a lot of closers so I dont think the rabbit wipes out these players. |
The one thing I learned today is to never doubt yourself, your initial reactions and observations of a race, especially after Harlem Rocker's bad race at Woodbine last week it is natural a bit of doubt may enter the equation. But after J BE K ran them off their feet in the Woody Stephen's it is gratifying to know maybe your observations are correct ones.
It reaffirmed to me that Harlem Rocker's win in the Wither's over the latter was something only a very good horse could do. Harlem Rocker can bounce back and I believe he will make ammends for that off race last week if not by winning the Queens Plate but something else down the line perhaps the Dandy or even the Travers ? Time will tell on this one. |
