If this were an unknown horse who broke slow consistantly I cant imagine the starter/stewards wouldnt address the situation.

Ding, ding, ding...that was the point. I was probably a bit over the top in the initial post just to stir things up.

Evening Attire has developed a style of running that the stewards and everyone who can read PPs are aware of. Would it make any difference if he broke with his field and then dropped 5 lengths out back in the first furlong? He'd rather break 5 lengths behind and take up his position without the hassle. EA knows what he is doing; put 115 or more dead weight on him and he would run his race just fine, but the stewards insist on somebody doing the steering.

I think I understand this now. Attire ran a 99 beyers number yesterday that is as high or higher than 11 out or 13 runners in tomorrow $1,000,000 Grade 1 Preakness. Therefore we should all get on the phone and tell the stewards to scratch those 11 slow horses from the Preakness. :)

I believe Whirlaway, the only horse ever to win the triple crown and Travers, walked out of the gate.

Although I am happy Evening Attire is still around and well.. I don't think that is CJ's point.. Which i don't agree with but does have some merit. CJ is a well educated and a highly experienced player, he isn't going to make a bunch of inflamatory comments about a wonderful horse like Evening Attire without some justification.

a good race where he "almost gets 'em", Is a Win-Win Situation for fans and those looking to play against next race.

I know this was not addressed to me, but I also realize that was the point. Still made me laugh...
I also know CJ is very, very knoweldgeable, dylbert brought his figures to the Fairgrounds on derby day and they were quite spot on.

However as a knowledgeable player, everyone knows EA walks out of the gate, how is that hurting the bettor? And he runs a good race almost every time, he is known as a well off the pace closer, so I just don't see why there would be any reason to even question his ability as a game racehorse that would negatively affect the bettor.
Frankly he payed pretty well yesterday if you only P/S'd him for 2 you would have doubled your money.

I was just talking to my partner Tom Kelly about Attire and how some people are talking about how he is 10 years old and now breaks slowly. I have heard people on TV say he breaks slowly because he has arthritis which our vets don’t agree with. We laughed and remembered Robie Davis saying to us after one of his first races “I didn’t think he was going to come out of there”.
These are the racing comments from his first 4 races as a two year old. You can see that his slow starts are not new but it is his style of racing.
