When you say the going will be soft, that isn't soft as in european soft, i'm guessing.

Judging on what you have said, we will probably call that good ground. It should suit most of the European's on the card. Although Admiralofthefleet would probably prefer it firmer.

just looking at the entrys...Love Dubai? what the hell are the connections of this horse thinking again putting him in a G1? this horse is clearly not a graded stakes horse, atleast give him a shot to win

he would appear to be very optimistically placed.

also take a look at Mostacolli Mort. his claim to fame is that in his ninth start he was able to clear the first level allowance condition beating the likes of Frank The Barber, so obviously the next step would be to ship across country into a GR1.

It does seem odd -- to me, but I do not follow Arlington as closely as I do the New York tracks -- that there were a bunch of turf races before the Million. Can the turf course hold up, given the rain that you've had this week?

just working my way back through the card now, that the million is the fifth turf race on the card does seem strange. don't really know how it will hold up, but they keep lane five in good shape leading up to million day, so it will be in great shape to begin with. while it seems odd my guess is that it is no big deal. we really don't need anymore rain though.

as far as capping the other races i'm not that far yet.

He was actually disqualified and placed 4th. His only official win was when he broke his maiden and that took him 6 starts.

oh geez... i missed that fact and gave him too many accolades. thanks

he seems well suited for the Secretariat.

O'Brien's only runner SAT #2 Admiralofthefleet in the Secretariat will be a handfull. 1st time lasix and adds the hood after running a respectable race versus elders in the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park. I expect a huge effort and it will only help if the lawn is on the soft side. O'Brien ran Ivan Denisovich in last year's running and gave Showing Up a scare at long odds.

That I do not know as far as a comparsion but there will definitely be a cut in the ground. I know that HY means heavy, does GS mean good soft?

GS means exactly good/soft..... it will be yielding at best if not soft on Sat.

My guess is yielding and possibly good. We got zero rain up until two days ago and there will be zero races over the course until Saturday, it could easily dry out by then.

Good things happen to good people and Double D asked for rain and he got it. The course should look amazing Saturday. It is always the first thing I look at when I get there on Million Day

where are you going to be at Sat? I'd gladly come and meet up with you.

Scav 08-08-2007 10:25 PM

First tout

After Market - TOSS!!!!

Don't think he is a true 10 panel horse and getting 6lbs added (I am guessing Solis doesn't mind since he always overweight anyways, along with his boy Nakatini). Cut in the ground, back in 20 days, adding 6lbs EQUALS dull effort to SCAV.

Looking at the sheets for the big races, they are ALOT MORE COMPETITIVE then the PP's show.

Not a fan of Citronade at all. Honey Ryder might be the nuts in this race but have to use Irridescence and Royal Highness (who looks pointed towards this race specificially, after that huge run at GP)

jwkniska 08-08-2007 10:29 PM

I'd rather have After Market than a front runner on soft turf. BIGTIME advantage to the Euros in all of the races.

My picks are either Danak or Doctor Dino in the Million... all over Irridescence in the Beverly D... Secretariat is wide open...

Stream Cat definitely challenges Tin Man for the lead, which bodes very bad for both.

She won't be near the lead either

I try and stay away from downstairs on Million Day, it is a circus. The one thing I do appreciate is by Arlington making the Million the 9th race, and having 3 races after, which I will pay attention to, means that traffic will be less hectic after the 12th race.

NO ARGUMENT. I always stay for all of them, regardless of what day it is.

Danak would prefer firm ground though, he has never even faced soft conditions, so it would be an unknown for him.

Doctor Dino would love it if it were soft, the softer the better, i think. He seems very adaptable with ground conditions, though.

Irridescence wouldn't be wanting the ground too soft, either.

Although Admiralofthefleet will go on the ground, i think he is better with firmer conditions. If he does handle the conditions though, i think he will be very hard to beat.

Weather Update

We took another pounding of rain in Arl Heights last night on top of the heavy downpours/tornado warnings that temporarily shut down racing yesterday afternoon. More t-storms predicted for today. If my lawn is any indication, course is very soft this morning.

Also, AP set up a second rail about midway through the turf course. The racing office indicated that the wide course was to be used for turf races through million day (of which there now won't be any due to conditions) and also probably for some of the earlier non-stakes turf events (races 4 and 5) on Sat. if the course stays soft.
