ms pitts used to be with ken mcpeek, was his top assistant. i think when he decided to quit(but he's back training now i think), she got some of his horses. she's done pretty well for herself.

I thought that he was the most impressive 3yo to race at GP yesterday. More so than Nobiz.

I spoke with a representative for the Ms Pitts camp today and Curlin came out of the race is great shape. She said that Curlin will prob run in an allowace race next time out (but the Hutchenson is a possibility). If he does well in that spot then she will find a graded race for him.

One thing she didnt like was his greenness. She is not sure how long it will be before his next race. I can only assume that it will be a race in March. If all goes well in March then it is to Keeneland for the Bluegrass or to Arkansas for the Arkansas Derby.

it is interesting to note that curlin cost something in the neighborhood of 47k i believe.

this, coupled with his really erratic stretch run, makes me wonder how sound he is.

that seems awfully cheap for such a magnificent looking son of smart strike, but who knows.

He is out of an unraced mare who hasn't produced much. Although this is on the lower end price for a Smart Strike, his auction averages and medians are not too high overall either, 100-150K range for yearling & two year old colts. Fee this year is $75K but I'm unsure of what the fee was when his '06 yearlings & two year olds were produced.

He reminds me of Bright One.

Silverinyourpocket ($21 in GP's 4th) worked twice in company with Curlin recently. Apparently the Pitts firsters are ready to roll.

Speaking of Smart Strike colts, does anyone have an opinion on Dan McGrew? He looks to be a nice one as well.

Thoroughbred Times TODAY reported that we could see Curlin running in the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay.

That should be a good one with Any Given Saturday pointed there as well.

So much for bringing horses along anymore. " Good " horses don't need to waste their time with even one conditional allowance race apparently.

Gee, I wonder why all the good horses seem to fall by the wayside these days. This horse is a classic example.....he obviously had some issues not to start before February of his 3YO year.....they get him to run.....he's terrific albeit a little screwy....and now he's readying to ship and run two turns in his second start.

My guess? The third start is up in the air and they won't need to worry about planning a fourth one. It will probably be in 2008....if at all.

his fee has risen steadily for the past few years from 20 in '03 to 25 to 35 last year was 50 this year 75...the sucess of English Channel and Soaring Free obviously helps but he's been pretty solid overall and as his quality of mare has improved so have his offspring

His rate of return isn't that great though at the auctions so I'd use him to breed to race rather than to sell. I think EC only sold in the 40K range as a yearling too and I don't think I ever saw a yearling by him who I thought was particularly outstanding. He is definitely getting a decent runner though.

Curlin scored a 101 Beyer

Doubt we will see him around come May if he is rushed into stakes off that win. While impressive it lacked seasoning and its one thing to beat a maiden field doing what he did. But two turns against stake company is a different story. Need to go allowance route with him and look to summer stakes

I believe the Sam Davis at Tampa is a 7F race which is a prep for the Tampa Derby vs the Hutch which is a 7f prep for the FOY at Gulfstream. It would seem to me to be a good fit , as he would not have to race against the top horses, didn't pletcher do this with Bluegrass Cat ? Helen Pitts seems to me to be a person with a good head on her shoulders and does right by horses in her charge. I think you are over reacting a bit. ;)
