King Glorious 01-20-2007 01:23 AM

Galloping Grocer

Bag (won his first start in 1:08 4/5 I believe)

Arazi (most mismanaged horse ever; would have gone down as an all-time great)

Dehere, Event of the Year, King Glorious, Java Gold, Dinard (all horses that I felt would have been Derby winners if not forced to miss the race do to injury or illness)

SteelKrtan 01-20-2007 03:04 AM

Dehere went on to be a very good sire down here so im not suprised he was in the mix for the derby.

Flower Alley too -- thought he would really be strong as a 4 year old. Tough time even getting him back to the track and then he did nothing.

by biggest one-day dissapointment was point given's derby.
i had been telling everyone i knew that this was the best horse in the last 20 years and i placed the single largest straight win bet of my life on him in the derby.
it turned out he was a great horse, but for whatever reason, he just didn't have it that day.

Disappointing that Cigar was sterile.

I was terribly disappointed that Point Given was retired with a minor injury instead of giving it a go at 4. There are a lot of them that fall into that category, but I really thought PG was getting better as he matured.

I was in the same boat. It's the only time I thought my Derby horse couldn't lose (Silver Charm was close). To make matters worse, I had PG wheeled solo on top of all my bets including one that had Monarchos and Invisible Ink underneath. Even with chalk on top, Ink on the bottom would have put me at the IRS window.

I still have not gotten over the retirement of Vindication. :(

MLC 01-21-2007 10:38 AM

Smarty's Belmont, Secretariat's Whitney, Carry Back's Belmont, and Lawyer Ron.

Afleet Alex 01-21-2007 10:53 AM

Declan's Moon managed to disappoint AGAIN and his "career" continues to fester.

After pressing the pace yesterday in a $40K allowance that was MEANT to give him confidence and somehow catapult him back into stakes races, this fraud managed to come in dead last, losing so badly that the camera didn't even linger long enough to catch him prance across the finish line.

me too, what a horse !! I had chance of visting him in 2005..looked to me he was ready to go two years after his retirement. I hope he makes a great sire !!

Bernardini 01-21-2007 06:46 PM

although i have many disappointments as far as recent retirements:

Bernardini
Ghostzapper
Mineshaft (should have run BCC'03)
Afleet Alex
Empire Maker
Point Given
Barbaro (I was never a fan, but I know he is a damn good fighter)

my biggest disappointment is that Citation, the greatest champion ever!!! was before my time. And there won’t be another.

your screen named reminded me that my biggest disappointment was not actually point given's derby, but rather a 6-way tie between every race that bernardini won.

Tell me the truth...

Can you ever ever ever see the name of that horse and not think of King?

I'll be on my deathbed and someone will say Galloping Grocer and...

Oh wait that won't happen so never mind. :D

The funny part about this is that the article says when the "illustrious" racing career ended. Did they not see this piece of crap race?

My biggest disappointment was Secretariat not running at four, understand the reasons but...oh, what might have been!

helicopter11 06-04-2011 03:01 PM

Candy Ride retiring after only one race in America. That was one monster performance in PC at Del Mar. Passed Megdalio D'Oro as if he was standing still.
