Not only is Lewis Michael a full sibling to (soon to be) champion 2-year-old filly Dreaming of Anna.

But, he comes from a multiple turf stakes winning dam who's kin to champion turf horse Kitten's Joy.

Lewish Micheal's 2nd dam is also kin to Down the Aisle, who was a millionaire turf specialist, and won a Grade 1 race at age 7.

His 3rd dam is also kin to a Mother Goose winner.

His overall pedigree will obviously enhance his value as a stallion prospect. However, I'd only seen him being sought after by some breeder looking for a young stallion in the lower-middle price range, that might have the potential to throw a good grass miler...and wouldn't figure to be a liability as a dirt sire.

Unforgettable Max trivia: In the '04 Tom Fool, Ghostzapper went off at 7/5 off the layoff. The 2nd choice in the race (field of 4)? Unforgettable Max at a ridiculously low 9/5. He finished a distant 3rd.

UM also opened up the favorite over Ghostzapper, in the early betting of that race.

I vividly remember that day. My parents throw a gigantic 4th of July party every year....I blew it all off so I could watch Ghostzapper's 4yo debut, and bet a few other horses I really loved on the undercard.

To say my mother was pissed at me was an understatement.

I wasn't able to watch Candy Ride's American Handicap on July 4th '03, Left Bank's Tom Fool on July 4th '02, or Xtra Heat's Prioress on July 4th '01---I wasn't about to spend another July 4th with my family and nitwit relatives.

Sometimes you just have to put your foot down.

For any stallion, the criteria, in order of significance for his prospects (price and book), are: racing record, pedigree, and conformation.

You might be entirely correct in your analysis of priorities.
To me, I wouldn't put racing record first. Some others don't either.
Mary Lou Whitney's broodmares are unraced. Pedigree plays a larger factor.
I've bred several to a son of Dayjur that got injured before he raced. However, his conformation justified his 500K purchase price.
We'll just have to wait until this spring and summer to see how they do on the track.
In breeding, I look for a sire that compensates for the dam's weaknesses.
Just my two pennies.
Also, go back and read Pgardn's post. I think he's right.
