Never understood the Giacomo naysayers.. I liked him and the rest of that SA Derby crew going into the Derby when everyone else hated the whole group. (Still wonder what happened to General John B..) Had him across the board, and Closing Argument P/SH to boot.
Mike Smith told me, and anyone who cared to believe him, everything you needed to know about their chances Tuesday before Derby: http://www.derbytrail.com/writings/display.php?ID=10 |

It was a fine performance by horse and rider alike, and I feel the same way about this year's BCC -- no shame finishing behind the horses he did. I think he should be pretty darn good at stud actually. |

I highly recommend "Horse of a Different Color" by Jim Squires. Very good read...and hope for "small time breeders". Oh yeah...I'm finished shopping. Wheeww! DTS |
I think Giacomo will do fine at stud. I can't see too many negatives. He actually ran a pretty full season at age 4 and was pretty healthy for the most part this year. What, only the second Derby winner this century to do that...actually run at 4?? Of course the other one to do it was a gelding so that doesn't count. I know running after age 3 is just a quaint notion nowadays, but I have a hunch Giacomo's will do just fine.
