I loved the old paddock at Charles Town...why they moved it I'll never know! It's a nice little track...owned by Penn National by the way!
Maryland may never get slots...the state is a battle ground and has been declared "ground zero" by many national religious groups opposed to slots. At some point, they will have to decide...horse racing and a continuation of their breeding program or loss of thousands of jobs and a state devoid of racing! WVa allowed slots for years before CT got them, every county must vote to allow same and Jefferson County refused to pass slot bills. Finally the track followed it's sister track (Shenandoah Downs...across the street from CT) and closed throwing about 2500 folks out of work...Penn agreed to buy both tracks but only with a passed slot bill and...guess what? It passed easily! You will have to search very hard today to find opposition to slots in Jefferson Co.!

well somer if MD goes under itll be a huge blow to the entire industry. anyways im sure the news in PA makes ya very happy! ya still make it out to penn ever? ash rode there a couple times and said she liked it cuz they had the gate mic'd

Nothing like a night out of slot machines & some day old hot dogs. Maybe after hit the bowling alley and then watch a nascar race on TV. Yippee.

Haven't really been there for awhile, waiting for them to finish and open the new grandstand etc...I will always consider Penn my "home" track though! Maybe once I get income again I'll pay a visit!

I think it is great that Pennsylvania has the slots finally here at their tracks. It can only help racing, even if it is not the absolute answer.

Only wish Ohio could have passed their bill...

Apparently the slots were a success yesterday at Philly--big shock huh. Anyway, I also just read where Philly is starting to pay all the way to last place in a race. I really like this idea. I firmly believe that if you race then you should get rewarded. However, I think there needs to be a big enough gap between 4th and 5th place to encourage riders to ride for 4th place.

Hopefully Philadelphia Park will earn enough revenue to improve the look of their TV feeds, maybe use fonts that dont look like they were used in the
1970's and start placing the odds of the horses by the numbers at the bottom of the screen, while the race is being run.

Cant think of any other tracks that dont show you the odds of the first 4 horses at the bottom of the screen.

NYRA even shows you the horse's names. Thats very helpful.

Yes, I agree with that. So annoying not knowing the odds of the horses while racing.

Plus there video feed never shows coupled entries, You have no
clue if one or both are running.
