Crimson Saint...

Crimson Saint is Terlingua's dam... which is why in my original post I said Crimson Saint is partly responsible for some of the fastest "blood" in today's horses.

Capote Belle, Exotic Wood....

For those who don't remember Melair.....

She raced only in 1986, winning all five of her lifetime starts, three of them in Graded Stake races.

Melair is most famous for taking on top males in a $400K Grade 2 Stake and DESTROYING them. She won it by 6 1/2 lengths over 8 time champion South American sire Southern Halo. Snow Cheif, who was Champion 3yo male that same year, finished 3rd beaten 11 lengths. The final time for the mile was a supersonic 1:32 4/5. She was just 3/5ths of Dr. Fager's world record.

She also beat Hidden Light in another Stake that year. Those not fimilar with Hidden Light, she won the Gr 1 Santa Anita Oaks, Gr 1 Hollywood Oaks, and Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks that same year, and she's also the dam of Artie Schiller.

While I was only 5 years old when Melair raced...I have seen film of three of her races...and she was an absolute freak.

Hmm first i've ever heard of her. She raced a year before I was born...

Looking at her pedigree, its pretty interesting. There are lines of some of the best blood of her time, but through individuals that were considered subpar representatives of that blood. She's tail-female to Admiration who produced the incredible Pretty Polly. Amazing how true class will rise out of no where when the blood is there.

Raja Baba is such an underestimated source of class and speed... that family can sure produce a sire.

How about Genuine Risk and Silverbulletday?

That was one of the greatest performances I ever saw. We didn't have simulcasting here back then, and I caught it on ESPN on that racing around the country replay show. It was incredible.

If you think Capote Belle was good, and she was, what about Danseuse who drowned her in their respective debuts and went on to run, unfortunately, only once more?

That was a true shame. She was crazy good.

She was OK...but not in the league of the horses being mentioned here....at least for the most part.
