The above numbers are meaningless without including the total number of events (training and racing) that occurred. By event I mean each time a horse stepped on the track. Also how many of the above were due to illness or natural causes.

Multiple vets spoke on the condition of anonymity? How courageous of them. The truth is, multiple horses were scratched by vets BEFORE their races both Friday and Saturday. The vets were overly cautious. How could they scratch multiple horses and miss this one? Internet vets and real ones who have a lot to say sure were quiet before the Classic.

Who or what would you like said? Horses have accidents man. It sucks and if you’re human you feel bad but nothing will change that.

For as long as horse racing has existed and for as long as it lasts, there will be breakdowns. I’m sure everyone wishes we could wave a magic wand and stop it but we can’t. The goal should be to limit breakdowns as much as possible and for as awful a year Santa Anita has had...they actually have made a lot of positive changes.

What agenda? I didn't start this thread. If trying to save horses and horse racing is my "crusade" then so be it. I don't know why this is even brought up if this board just wants to focus on the sunny side of racing and gambling. I can play that game too.

There is no fishing and how courageous is it not to do anything? Unfortunately they missed scratching the one horse who broke down in the biggest race of the day for all the world to see. Maybe airing on the side of caution would have been a better idea. You know if you don't give those hate groups ammunition they won't be around. I posted the video so you could decide for yourself. I didn't judge it as I am not qualified and it is interesting and hardly boring unless you don't care about these things.

I’m not sure if you’re confused, obtuse or what....but I was being sarcastic saying the vets that spoke on the condition of anonymity were being courageous. They weren’t.

It’s ignorant to think the vets missed one and even more ignorant to not realize they were overly cautious. They scratched horses trained by the top turf trainers in the US and Europe.

The point, which you’d think someone posting on a horse racing message board would realize is all the precaution in the world cannot stop a bad step. Horses take bad steps.

Are all trainers clean? Of course not. Are all breakdowns a result of a bad step? Again, of course not. There are horses breaking down that should not be because they are running when they should not be. Cleaning up the sport will require minimizing that as much as possible.

I’m unhappy about a lot of things in the sport right now too but parroting nonsense from a hypocrite like Battuello and acting like a team of vets missed a lame horse, while scratching many others is not helping anything but your own ego.

Forget it. I know we play for the same team and want the best for the sport. I have no quarrel with you.

I tend to get emotional on this topic and sometimes writing something in texts, emails and message boards gets misconstrued. I can still remember watching Ruffian as a kid and I was never the same.:wf
