Good luck!

Even though my pick for yesterday didn't win, he did at least finish third to keep the show streak alive although I fell in the standings from 133 to 678. Despite yesterday being very formful, the number of show streaks went from 1,289 down to 920. I think that by the end that number will be far lower still, probably single digits.

Dunbar 10-02-2015 04:32 PM

We both advanced today, ranger. I inherited the fav, Toomanytomatoes, when my pick scratched and it finished 2nd, giving me my 2nd place. Maybe I'll start trying to pick horses that finish 2nd. ;<)

#3 Straight N Strong

Yesterday saw the end of another 201 perfect show streaks, dropping the number to 719. With those who took the big favorite getting credit for a second place finish, the number of perfect win streaks dropped from 133 all the way down to 11. I'm actually in last place among all those with three wins, currently 210th. Good luck today!

2 more scratches from the 8th race, leaving just 5, so going with...

Too bad those horses scratched, or I would have gone with one of the favs from the earlier races.

My chances are slim now. I should probably switch to a pic-the-longest-shot-of-the-day strategy. Other wise, I'd pretty much need to luck into a good win streak or luck into enough random place finishes to catch up there.

Good luck!

Sorry your show streak was ended Dunbar, but you outlasted 1700 people from day 1 who missed earlier, so that is very good. Masochistic took out quite a few entries, so you had plenty of company. We are now down to 415 players who are 5/5 on show picks. Bigrun and I are actually part of a 53-way tie for 153rd place with 3 wins, 1 second and 1 third. Only three players have managed to find 5 straight winners to start the meeting.

Wait, what?

Santa Anita is dark on Wednesdays so your streak is alive and well, unlike mine when I missed on Sunday. So no 50-1 shots for you yet, unless you think they are the horse you feel is most likely to show :)

Other notable players with perfect streaks include fellow DTers Arletta and jwkniska, great job and keep up the good work! Also the winner of the winter-spring contest, sgtennis, is also among the 279 final perfect streaks.

????..11p.m I tried to check results, no results!..checked entries and no racing today!!...what the heck, when i logged on earlier and thought i just missed, i must have missed the date:zz:...gotta go back in and change that 50-1 to 6/5:D

Dunbar 10-08-2015 06:25 AM

I thought I'd pick a few more favs to see if I could get in the running for most places or most wins, but my first pick, on Sunday, finished 3rd, which helped me in no category. So, I'm officially switching to the 50-1 shots now, too.

(took the 2nd 50-1 shot in the 4th race today.)

bigrun 10-08-2015 07:13 PM

Made my selection last nite and got lucky, ran 2nd so streak going...but not much chance unless 224 players fold up:rolleyes:

Made pick for tomorrow..

147 now at 9 out of 9, including bigrun, jwkniska, and sgtennis. Arletta must have skipped a day, because she is at 8 of 8.

Interestingly, one of the players with 9 of 9 show picks, roro308, had a 16-1 shot come in for a $35.60 payoff. That seems pretty weird! Maybe he/she started out going for highest win payoff, and then switched? roro308 is also in a 5-way tie for the lead in most wins, 6.

Also thought roro big payoff strange, probably like you say..

16 bigrun my rank..?? maybe because of 4 wins and 4 place? tied with 16 others..

Dunbar 10-14-2015 10:03 AM

Here's another Showvivor oddity. One of the 5 players tied for first in biggest win payout with $78.80 has 5 wins total, has an ended show streak of 6 straight, and has a current show streak of 2 straight.

It's hard to put together a strategy that would produce those results, unless his last 2 longshots (trying to best $78.80) managed to hit the board. None of my 5 longshots, after my show streak ended, have hit the board.

Meanwhile, it looks like the show streak field is down to 60 with 11/11. A surprising number have 10/10.

ranger5830 10-17-2015 10:41 AM

Yesterday was probably the toughest day of the contest so far, as both of the top two picks were out of the money, so now with six days left there are only 14 perfect streaks left, as well as another 12 players who are one behind with active streaks of 12 in a row. I think it is certainly possible that nobody makes it through the meeting with a perfect streak.

As for my strategy, I had been trying to stay competitive in the "most wins" category by picking less obvious short priced horses, for instance yesterday I had the 2-1 favorite in the last race, 6 horse field, and only 12 people picked him. He didn't win, but I feel like it was a good pick seeing how I don't have a show streak to worry about.

Many people are playing for the big longshot, yesterdays least likely winner on paper had 49 picks for him. So I would think it would be wise to try and find sneaky longshots, maybe 15-1 morning line shots and hope they drift up.

I tried that strategy for the first time yesterday. I took a 30-1 shot when there was a 50-1 shot in the same race. I was really ticked at myself for being "cute" when I saw that the 50-1 shot came in. I'm much less bothered by it now that I see I would have shared the $500 with 16 other players.

Only 8 left with 14/14 show streaks. One of the 8, Sacatbox, is also just one behind in Win Streak and Total Wins.

Sorry if I talked you off a winner, but if it makes you feel any better you wouldn't have even gotten 1/16th of $500, the tiebreaker for highest win payout is longest show streak, and player kriskring3, who picked the longshot winner as his/her pick yesterday, previously had a show streak of 8 in a row, which gives him a clear lead over everyone he is tied with, seeing how there are only 5 race days left, and none of the other players have an active streak higher than 3.

Now that the bar has been raised to $97.20 it's going to be a lot harder to find a sneaky horse that will pay that much, you just have to take the longshot and hope for the best, maybe one can find a 20-1 in a big field that gets overlooked.
