Do you honestly see a scenario where all 3 are out of the money?

What if Sun King wins the Classic? Or Perfect Drift? Do they get any consideration? Because you'd conceivably be putting all the major contendors for HOY in the same race. So if Sun King were to come out on top... would you give him HOY?

sumitas 10-08-2006 03:16 PM

maybe not out of the money, but more like not in first place. my choice is Barbaro for HOY...he did a lot, was injured. could have done a lot more.

why hold the injury against Barbaro ? i don't, that's why he's my HOY.

You know, I was going to write a response to this unbelievably ridiculous post, but there are so many quotes in here that have already destroyed it by using, you know, logic, I think I'll just post some of the ones I like the most.

bernardini is going to be hoy. he is 5-6 lenghts better than anything out there.

Very, VERY well done Betsy. That might be my new signature.

Feel free, Ateam and thanks!

You know, I'm really enjoying this now. I visit and post on several message boards, and on each one, there is at least a couple of people who's utterly nonsensical ravings about Bernardini make me want to either  or :D.

One poster on another board said that Bernardini didn't impress him and pointed out that he was sweaty after the race and so the race clearly took a lot out of him......That may have been my favorite anti-Bernardini post of all time. I saw him after the race - yes, he probably didn't have a good deoderant on since the colt had some visible droplets of sweat. He was great in the winner's circle, tossing his head and not standing still ; colt crackled with energy. I know we haven't yet had to see it on the track, but I really do think this is an ultra-competitive horse. A local racing writer (NY Newsday) called Bernardini fierce, and I think that is a good description. By the way, he apparently came out of Gold Cup in fine fettle, bouncing around like he'd never run - I love to read that. He's got a wonderfully strong constitution.

'Fresh' horses do not win BC races, as a rule. Therefore, I see Invasor and David Junior with little chance. The award is between the two most worthy, Bernardini and Lava Man.

FairPlay 10-08-2006 05:47 PM

The bigger question is what happens if Invasor finishes ahead of Lava Man but Invasor doesn't win the race (expecting Bernardini or David Junior to win). Who is champion Older Male? I still say Lava Man given 4 Grade 1's with one on turf plus a Grade 2 and a million $ restricted stakes race trump 3 east coast Grade 1's. Any thoughts?

I think the champion Older Male is going to be Lava Man. I think he is actually going to run well at Churchill Downs. I changed my mind about him.

Danzig 10-08-2006 06:07 PM

i think lava man has top older wrapped up, multi-surface winner, unbeaten all year.
it is hard to see one of these three not winning. but you never know, which is why they run them! certainly will put a wrinkle into things. but at this point i don't see barbaro getting hoy. i think either bernardini or lava man will get hoy even if they both lose. only way one of them doesn't get it is if invasor wins the classic.
someone asked if its believed invasor will really run in the classic? if he's healthy, yeah, i think he does.

Tommy Albertrani is one of the Good guys in racing today and I say that because I know him pretty well.

you know him so well then pass my opening post to him...he's gotten lucky by picking up pieces the last few months.

Thunder Gulch 10-09-2006 09:47 AM

Barbaro is probably out of HOY running and his only shot for 3yo champ if for Bernardini to run up the track in the Classic.

Yep, I'll be laughing while you guys sit on here and pout about it. I think Drifty gets a win in... and the BCC is the place to do it.
