Incredibly proud of our FGCU Eagles !!

What a weekend ...

The real Derby is Friday against big brother, U of FLA Gators

Keep it go'in, guys....

As fun as this time of the year has become, it's painfully obvious that the level of play is horrendous. Guys can't hit shots for sh1t. Temple had 3 starters that went 0 for 21, and 0 for 12 on 3 pointers and they still almost won!! 58-52 as a final score in a major college basketball game? A game that involved a #1 seed? Coaches over coach, and they're quick to yank players when in fact it's a lack of fundamentals that's to blame. There are a few exceptions.....Louisville comes to mind.

I agree. Next year they have a point guard who had to sit out this year( transfer from Duquesne) who can really play, TJ McConnell.

The refereeing has been awful. The Temple/Indiana game was one of the few games I saw that at least had consistent reffing, though they did let more go than what seems normal at the NCAA level now. One of the big problems with the games is that taking charges is now seemingly the goal of most defenses. You have 6'10" guys flopping in the lane trying to take charges on 5'10" guys. Of course when there is some contact and guys are falling down the refs feel the need to call something. They should consider expanding the restricted area to the entire lane and moving the three point line back to try to open up the floor. Teams are taking far too many bad 3 point shots, I dont think I have seen a single entry pass from the high post even from the teams that have decent low post players. The flopping stops the game too much, makes aggressive guards settle for bad shots when they have a few fouls and generally takes away from the flow of the game.

The tourney is still a great event with stories like FLGC which just dont exist anywhere else in big time sports and the fans interaction via the brackets but the quality of the product on the court is pretty weak.

Belmont and Harvard was a nice draw. If they are having a good shooting night they can beat anyone. The problem for them is Lyons runs hot and cold and they have to play through Hill. If he gets in foul trouble they struggle.

Your writing has gotten really good. The stories have a good flow to them that the really top writers have. This recent one could have easily been on Sports on Earth or Grantland or other sports website.

They have a 5 star swingman coming from Philly (Chester really) who can really play too. His brother plays for Temple, Hollis-Jefferson. They also have a 4 start SG from S. Cal.

Sean Miller was a great hire

McConnell's game is similar to Miller's at Pitt but he is a much better athlete.

Great stuff !!! Thanks for posting....

I heard that Brett Comer (point guard) got 3 hours sleep off the plane ride from Philly and still showed up for his early morning Statistics class....

Heck, I don't think I made it to work by 8:30 this morning...

This team has heart...Thanks again...

Based on my review of brackets, if Louisville wins it all, I repeat as Hoopla winner. No remaining bracket has one of remaining Final Four participants as overall winner. However, some do have either Syracuse or Michigan making NC game.

Go Cardinals!

dylbert 04-08-2013 03:54 PM

This thread 'got no love' after Elite 8 were set. 'Bred for Snow' bracket will sing 'Hail to Victors' should Michigan Wolverines prevail tonight. Yours truly captures second straight Hoopla contest if newly-elected Hall of Fame coach, Rick Pitino, guides his Louisville Cardinals to win.

Michigan may offer good matchup. I hope for close, entertaining game with last minute surge by Louisville to secure win.
