Look, if I owned him I would probably take a shot at getting any piece of the four million dollar purse as well, but I don't think he has much of a shot at anything better than a suck up third or fourth.

Please don't claim his second to Seek Gold was a good effort. That same effort will get him eighth in this year's BC Classic.

im not predicting he will win either, a 3rd or 4rth is prob right. and that was my point in being in the bcc. hes still better then prob 2/3 of the field when the dust settles. the foster was not his best effort but a grade 1 win is a grade 1 win if he would have won and he blew the doors off the so called better horses in bb and brass hat. doesnt say much about thier ability after where they placed and everyone thought these 2 were the 2nd coming in the beginning of the year. i still say he deserves to be in the BCC

The designation of a race has nothing to do with whether or not a performance was a good one and his performance in the Stephen Foster was mediocre at best.

How you can state he is better than 2/3 of the field, especially at this point, is beyond me and undefendable. Off the bat he is not better than Bernardini, Lava Man and Invasor, and the likelihood that he is better on the dirt than all three potential Euro entries, David Junior, Dylan Thomas and Shirocco, is questable at best. He certainly hasn't shown to be better this year than Sun King as well. This is just off the top of my head.

Please feel free to fill out the rest of the field and tell me which ones he is clearly better than and why.

nor does it for any horse be it lava man either out west but does add up to entry points to the bcc in the end. and a grade 1 mediocre i will take any day.

if you think bernardini, lava man and invasor are going to be the top 3 finishers in random order- i think not.1or 2 of these will be going backwards at the 1/8 or before. will one of them win-of course, the euros are a ? but are very nice horses and could upset the whole american applecart. and i think he is still better then sun king. and why do i think he'll beat 2/3 of the field is cause he gives his best all every time, the bigger the race the better he runs excluding his last and his track record speaks for itself, hes always in the money, that is why i think he will be there i dont need to over analyze this with #s and figs and i said prob better then not absolutly.you said yourself 2 threads back a suck up 4rth or 3rd prob, so you must feel hes capable of beating 2/3 also. you know yourself this horse belongs in the bcc until he proves otherwise in it. like you said a 3rd or 4rth payday is a nice sum in the bcc.yes eventually he will no longer be able to compete at the g1 level. this may be his last year for g1's maybe 1 more if lucky, he is getting up there in age

The thing about last year's BCC-
Well... I go both ways on how much of an excuse he had last year, because this horse does hang, and he seems to have the eternal case of 2nd-itis. But with that being said, HE WAS BLOCKED FOR LITERALLY HALF OF THE STRETCH LAST YEAR IN THE BCC. Once he was finally able to uncork his run, he got up for 3rd. I'm not saying he beats 'Liam, but if he had a clean ride and the whole stretch to uncork it, the race woulda been a lot closer.

But there's always something with him that makes him fall short. He is a classic hanger. But if he really comes with a run, he's gonna give Invasor, Bernardini, Lava Man, whoever all they can handle... and with that being said- put a show bet on him in the BCC lol.

Beyond my betting interests, I'm rooting for him all the way to win the BCC. He's such a gamer. That, and I'm not ready to say he's "over the hill", like Funny Cide is. If he gets his ass whooped in the 'Classic, then I'll concede. But until then, I'm keepin the faith he's got some good racing left in him.

HE DOESN'T BELONG IN THE CLASSIC? WHAT ROPE ARE YOU SMOKING?

The horse runs against the top horses all over the country and shows up 99%of the time and runs his heart out. And you don't think he belongs?

Does Sun King belong? He finishes second a lot. But because he hasn't won should we keep him out of the race?

Crown@club 09-21-2006 09:23 AM

He needs someone that could get him motivated in the stretch - Leparoux? Hmm! Let's just watch. Orlando Mojica could do it..... LOL!

well actually Sun King has won:

and based on current form, I'd take Sun King over Perfect Drift.

I meant in his (Sun King) last few races because after his nose loss to Invasor, everyone was dubbing him the second coming of Perfect Drift. I was just talking because it makes me mad that so many diss Perfect Drift. I can handle the doubters, but to say he doesn't belong in the race is crazy. He will show up. Will he win? I hope so and I will always have faith in him. He may not win, but he will finish in the $$$. He deserves to run anywhere he wants to run. He can run with the best of them.

Oh and by the way, I like Sun King too.

The more the merrier in my opinion. :)

What is the limit on starters and how do they draw he gets in and who stays out?

I thought it was based on a point system. And aren't there 14 starters allowed?

By the way, I can't wait to cheer for Perfect Drift when he wins the BCC.

Breeders' Cup Divisional Points are earned based on graded stakes placings and are used to select runners in the year-end Championships in the event fields are oversubscribed. Seven of the 14 spots in each Breeders' Cup race are given automatically to the highest point earning horses.

I copied the above from the website.

And Cajun. I CAN'T WAIT EITHER!!!

I think Guidry got a little content in the Stephen Foster, which is ironic since he's often very vigorous w/the whip. I think neither PD or Guidry saw Seek Gold until it was too late. It really hurt having win money on PD at 10-1 to get beat my a few millimeters.

Seattleallstar 09-21-2006 11:07 AM

last timed I checked jockeys dont make horses run faster, will having Leparoux make PD run 3 seconds faster

so are you saying g2 and g3 horses are not good horses and drift wont win a grade 2 or 3 ever again? your splitting hairs, that comment would be foolish if he had a longer nose or a little more luck in the foster a grade 1 with so called good horses-buzzards bay and brass hat. you would not say that but after the fact you do. don't forget he lost a grade 1 by not even a nose. trust me this horse is capable of pulling one off at any time

Maybe so but when do the excuses stop? Its always if, if, if. This horse just doesnt like to win. Simple as that. He hangs in the stretch.

He does fill out an exotic nicely though.
