Gasp! You mean even fake bidding occurs? :D

The AP Indy - Sapphire 'n Silk filly was a real beauty from what I saw on the live feed. $400,000 felt like a bargain.

What's the highest buyback so far? $575,000?

I got depressed when I realized that almost all of these horses are worth more than most houses.:zz:

And nearly all of them won't earn what was paid for them.

“My passion is breeding and to breed you need excellent broodmares,” Leon said. “You can buy stud fees to stallions, but you cannot buy a uterus from a mare, so you have to buy the mare."

I think this guy scares me.

People who don't like low quality.

The shrimp typically found in restaurants nowadays is nowhere near the flavor and quality of what you'd find 20-30 years ago.

Me? I get wild native Maine shrimp by the bucketful for $1 a lb when in season, then prep and freeze a year's worth, for like $50.

The meat is pink and sweet, and bears no resemblance to cardboard.

That was a rather tortured way of saying "If you want to breed horses, you need to buy fillies."

Very strong results at Keeneland Tuesday (Book 2; Day 1/3):

Hip by Hip (Bloodhorse)

Gross up 20%
Average up 22.4%
Median up 30.8%
Buybacks down (32.2% to 28.1%)

For book 1 level horses, virtually every one at some point

Well, he's not wrong. Mares have always shown a profound inability to make sound financial decisions regarding the sale of their uteruses (uterei?). Just easier to buy the mare. This guy's really not that scary. He obviously doesn't participate in the exchange of money for body parts. You won't wake up in a tub of ice missing a kidney because this guy black market bought it. That's good right? See? Not scary.

Anybody catch the Tapit-Baroness Thatcher colt? $50,000? Did anybody see what might be wrong with that one? I was just scrolling through the hips I missed and did a double take.

Can you actually tell if there is something wrong by just watching the feed?

I meant in person or from buzz really, but I've had negative reactions just from watching the feed. Of course, just because something's not aesthetically pleasing doesn't mean it will affect soundness. I assume you can at least get an idea of the type of colt that was. If he was pretty rough looking, or didn't look like a Tapit, for example.

If anybody does want to see a little more of some horses than just on the internet feed, some consigners have started putting walking/standing videos up. You can see some of the Book 1-2-3 horses here (click on the picture to play the video)
