You're assuming someone will be taking the bet halfway seriously - that probably won't happen until one of two things occur.

1.) There is about a million dollar carryover and the sequence doesn't look brutal .... or

2.) it's a mandatory payout on the last day of the meet - and you're trying to swipe shares of the pool by getting past the exacta in the 2nd leg.

A new multi-race, ten-position wager called the “Slider,” will debut on April 1, opening day at Pimlico Race Course following the wager’s unanimous approval at the Maryland Racing Commission’s monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Not to be rude but 1. good day for its debut and 2. do they not have more important issues to be addressing at their monthly meetings?

Piece a cake.

I think we're missing the point...

With 252 million combos on a sequence involving 8 horses in each race...you might as well play the lottery. Surely, some combos will be more bet than others, but if my odds at 252,000,000-1, just on pure chance, then how much do I really trim those odds when there is some intellect going behind them?

The odds of hitting Powerball = 192,000,000-1 or so, and the base payout is $5 million. Yeah, sign me up to have a guaranteed pool of $100,000.

If the number of horses in a selected sequence were 8,9,10,10 then the number of combinations...wait for it...

2,090,188,800

Yes, that's 2 billion combinations. Give me 20 powerball quickpicks and five punches to the gut and I'll be on my way.
