Long live Grunder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Indomitable DrugS 02-11-2011 08:32 AM

Everyone who has heard so much as one of his calls knows that Grunder is a terrible race caller - and I guess track announcers make a whole lot more money than I always assumed they made - but still... running smack talk on someone like that in a column?

Beyer might be a force to be reckoned with if he ever makes up a login and takes up message board posting.

The promo for Ferdinand on HRTV this Sunday night included a little snippet from his owner where she discusses how the announcer didn't even call him until the eighth pole. Who was on the mike that afternoon? Battaglia...

:tro:

Rudeboyelvis 02-11-2011 09:15 AM

Beyer is turning into the Pat Robertson of Horse Racing.

He simply can't make a point anymore without some incendiary comment out of left field that has little basis in fact.

Grunder is a bad ass, plain and simple. Admittedly,he's no Colmus or Durkin, but far from the worst.

I'd take him and his enthusiasm over about 50% of the dreck calling races in the US today. (present company excluded, of course ;) )

stonegossard 02-11-2011 11:26 AM

And good ol Vic Stauffer comes to Grunder's defense on Blinker's Off on TVG and trashes Beyer. Nice Vic. Once again we see that Stauffer doesn't know when to keep his big mouth shut. Taking personal shots at Beyer was probably the wrong way to go about it. Nice job Vic. Your career at TVG will be shorter than your stint as Tyler Baze's agent.

Coach Pants 02-11-2011 11:32 AM

TVG won't get rid of Vic. They have a track record of keeping bad talent.

Wow - Blinkers Off went from Watchmaker to Vic?

I was going to make a line on who would next replace Watchmaker in that thread Tector started... but got distracted and never got back to it.

I DVR'd it .... among other things, Vic accused Beyer of "getting the Horse of the Year vote wrong" ....

Ok, here's a post Vic made here after the BC Classic ...

It's one of the wierdest statistical oddities I've ever seen that she won't ever win horse of the year but unfortunately that's the way it's going to shake out. Imagine you owned Blame. How would you feel if you beat one of the all time greats and they gave HOY to the horse you just beat. That would be totally unfair.

Besides accusing Beyer of getting a vote wrong for which he was of the same exact opinion ... Vic said "Beyer should stick to playing 10cents Supers that cost $480 and losing" Basically, Vic kicked his own ass with the Horse of the Year remark ... and kicked his own ass again by basically doing the same thing he accused Beyer of doing with his $480 10-cent Super remark.

Vic was in fine form throughout the first 15 minutes of the show - he claimed to have never heard of Trappe Shot (2nd place finisher at about 5/2 odds in the Haskell) or Succesful Dan (DQ'd from a win over Giant Oak in the Clark)

My TV cried tears whenever Watchmaker's tranny mug was on... but after 15 minutes - I was already starting to get nostalgic for him.

Antitrust32 02-11-2011 01:33 PM

wow..

Maybe Vic and Clyde (Morty) are the same person??

Beyer left out one thing - if their avg daily handle is $4mm+, why do their purses continue to SUCK???

If they go higher, the complexion of who races there changes... it becomes more competitive, at which point, field size and other factors start to come into play. They've found an excellent balance with their racing program.

Welcome back we missed the town drunk. Nobody was entertained including your co host who in all likelihood was apalled by your ridiculous comments.
You picked on Beyer why? because he wrote a positive article on TB? or because he accurately suggested the races need to be timed correctly? maybe it was his comments on the race caller who in all fairness screws up so much it is embarassing.
