My thought was that 500k was thrown out there without her vetting or anything.

It doesn't affect the totals, but it does matter in where the takeout, is taken out. I read the details of it and I still get confused, like many, I haven't made a show bet in 25 years so I really have no idea

C'mon....have some respect for crying out loud! Booby Trap is named for his favourite titty bar....

I was hoping she'd win and become a heavy favorite next week...I'm going to guess he isn't going to try a bigger race anymore after this race?

Exactly there 15 minutes of fame are about up.

Oscar Gomez was trying way too hard. He absolutely rode the hair off of her early to keep her close to a pace setter who - from a pace figure standpoint - runs graded stakes caliber like first quarters and always stops. The whole race was filled with speedball stoppers.

You can blame the trainer for riding an 8% jock at Finger Lakes and not recognizing the race shape.

If the trainer simply tells his jock "everyone in this field is capable of running a spectacular opening quarter. They can all go 21 and change on the lead -without urging - on a track that's no faster than par. Don't panic at all if they're sharper than you away from the gate. They'll knock heads - they have no other choice - you stay out of it. Own the final quarter mile! That's the important thing, they'll all hit a wall at the quarter pole and so will you if you gun her after they outquick you from the gate"

He tells his rider that - and she wins going away.

Instead, he guns up two lengths off of a 21.66 first quarter - that quarter set by the eventual last place finisher - a stopper whom I believe has one of the faster Moss pace figures I've ever seen.

I hope Zenyatta makes the trip over the rockies so we can get an excuse similar to that.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-25-2010 08:08 AM

Here's by far the fastest paced horse race Zenyatta has ever been a part of.

It's the only time in her career she's ever run faster early than what is comfortable for her...and she was still a mile back.

So your saying she should move forward and take on Blind Luck?

She'd get smoked by Blind Luck. Where is her performance that makes her even remotely competitive with her?

I'm saying her trainer is as dumb as you for not instructing his 8% rider - and leaving the tactics up to him.

clyde 09-25-2010 11:37 AM

who is zenyatta!!??

46Zilzal agrees with you for what it's worth. I don't care if he gunned her the entire race. She should be beating horses like that. No excuse.

No she shouldn't. She's simply not that much better than a horse like Bob's Dylan.

While I agree, before the race most didn't think so. You're blaming Oscar Gomez for not riding like a smart rider should. Come on man. That's like blaming a blind person for stepping on your foot when they walk by you.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-25-2010 11:50 AM

I'm blaming the trainer for not giving him a clue.

However, he's probably no less clueless than Oscar.

I had a VERY bad week. Thank you so much for a well-needed laugh. Now---about Moss pace figures...
