I'm glad Pete is ok. This is scary stuff. When a horse turns like that it's frightening as all heck. I've seen it happen and I was lucky enough to get out of the way of one myself years ago. I know someone that lost a few fingers to a horse.

When I read this part I had to crack a smile....As for Silent Affair, "he was castrated an hour later," Eurton said. I'm just smiling about what the call to that vet must have sounded like.

no doubt laced with profanity. lucky for the horse they called the vet and not the knacker.

Del Carroll. I think he fell off during a workout.

Not sure about the John Henry story.

Surprisingly nothing broken. This is how we discovered the new horse had food issues.

did he attack him? i thought he ran him over when he was loose or something like that.

nasrullah was supposed to be pretty much insane. bull hancock supposedly cracked him over the skull once with his cane. but he got good horses, so they put up with his difficult behavior.

yeah, dynaformer i understand is legendary with his temper. seeking the gold looked like he's really only seeking an opportunity to reach out and touch someone. hard.

or maybe he just didn't like your prom date.

Pete showed me the hematoma that he has, it goes from about the middle of his stomach all the way around past the middle of his back. I gotta tell ya its one of the nastiest things Ive ever seen completely black and so swollen he looks like he is having a side pregnancy. The horse struck the outrider on her right leg as she was trying to catch it and she also has black bruises on her thigh and calf.

As Danzig said, that was an accident. The horse was loose and Jeff stepped in front of him by mistake and they collided. The horse tried to avoid him. The horse was running down the road and as Jeff moved to the left to avoid the horse, the horse moved to the left to avoid Jeff. It was just a fluke accident.

Halo had a reputation for being mean.

Maybe he simmered down as he got older but doubt they would let you get this close to him otherwise, this is my better half with him in 2008

I've never heard of anything like this happening. I know that some horses are territorial around their stall and will bite people that come near them in their stall but I've never heard of a horse attacking people on the track. Have you ever heard of an incident like this?

I havent heard of anything to this extent, some studs will try and bite the crap out of you when your on the pony or will try and mount the pony but usually a poke to the eye or a slap to the face gets their attention. I guess this horse had a reputation for going after the gate crew also when they would try and school him at the gate. To be honest an unraced 4 yr old that mean prolly should have just had a bullet between his eyes.

when we went up a few years back, the groom cautioned us to step back and stay back when he opened the top half of the door of his stall. then i thought the guy was going to lose some parts when he tried to get STG to back up so he could shut the top half again. maybe since his pensioning he's calmed down.

There are plenty of horses that are really mean in their stall but they're fine when they're out of their stall.

True, but supposedly he is quite a gentleman with the mares when they are brought to him (according to the Three Chimney's tour guide a few years back).

Thanks for the update. Glad everyone was okay, all things considered.

I've heard that Megahertz was a nasty little pipsqueak. No first-hand sources, but I've heard it more than once.

Maybe a horse as tiny as she was tends to overcompensate?

Thunder Gulch 07-27-2010 09:37 PM

All I ever read about Whirlaway included some comment about how nuts he was.
