Exactly my thoughts.

I'm a big Sinatra fan, but ESoM was the city's anthem last year and they obviously want to go in a more youthful direction. NY, NY gets played every goddamn game at Yankee Stadium, it's not as if there's nowhere to hear it anymore.

Sacrilege

this whole song thing pisses me off and i don't even like the song n.y n.y.

with all the b.s. going on with N.Y. racing you have to wonder what knuckle head said" yeah, that sounds like a good idea. lets change the song that we have been singing for years to show everyone we're on top of it.
lets not worry about casinos, bankruptcy and OTB's right now. lets just fluck with everyone and do something symbolic"

what do you think they expect to gain by changing the song? payola?

i believe they should not only sing n.y. n.y. but have liza come out and perform it.

i just saw her on joy behar and she looks great!

Yes, let's all listen to the male Liza Minnelli fan. Because changing a song no one listens to means they're not worrying about their big issues.

"East Side-West Side" was seriously dated, stale and empty 40 years ago.

"New York-New York" always seemed artificial, shallow and self centered.

Though apt, perhaps.

But I'm open to new things.

I could have cozied up to Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind."

your right.

their "to do" list was:

#1. fix or get rid of OTB.

#2. get a VLT's/casino at aqueduct. (like 5 years later)

#3.change that annoying song before the belmont stakes.

They probably said:

"well we f'd up the first two so lets just move on to #3.
Oh! that we can do!"

The original's too slow, so this is my suggestion. I'm sure DT'ers will love it.

What does anything in Sinatra's song have to do with the Belmont Stakes? I'm all for just looping the chorus. I also think it was Liza who shot Pac.

Joe Drape apparently tweeted last night that he'd have no problem with replacing New York, New York with Empire State of Mind. That right there is another reason not to change.
