He was on a 35 to 1 shot that I bet on in the 5th race Saturday. It's not often you get a Gomez-ridden horse at that price. Unfortunately, the horse came in 6th.

Cowboy Cal, if he starts in the Citation, will be running for a $180,000 first place purse on Friday.

Gomez is listed as riding Blue Chagail and Bejarano will ride Cowboy Cal

I don't think the last race is that random. You can usually eliminate the first time starters and look at the pace scenario.

How cool was it to see Garrett win on his first mount back? We forget what amazing athletes these race riders are. We should rejoice in their skill and courage. Way to go GO GO!! :tro:

Congrats to Gomez. I am glad that the result for him was better than what it could have been when he went down. It reminds us the guts that these men and women have every day they go out and ride.

Vic, I also think that you did a great job in the call of the race showing the appropriate compassion and proper priorities for an ugly, unfortunate situation. Keep up the great work.

Glad he won the second in a run-away but he was outmuscled in the 6th race by Talamo in a stretch duel. One of the hardest jockeys to out-hustle is definetley Gomez but I wonder if he still had that fall in the back of his mind during that stretch.

Completely agree. The last race today (Thursday) produced an $83.00 exacta payoff. The first place horse had finished second in both her lifetime starts at the level and was stretching out. The second place horse had finished in the money at the level in her last 5 starts, including a start at today's distance. Although there were no first time starters, there were two scratches and three longshot throwouts. Not what I would call a random race.

Any one know why he took off his mounts today? With him off his mounts today, it definitely changed my outlook on a few of the races.
