Fed beats Monfils in straight sets. Its semis for him. He plays the winner of Soderling/Gonzalez.

Could this be the one that completes "The Slam" for Fed?

Gonzalez is just not that good. Amazing how that guy gets as far as he does. That's a guy getting quite a bit out of the potential he was given. Soderling should beat him, and Federer, but (realistically) he will probably get to choking. Federer is pretty good at getting inexperienced players to choke really hard(Monfils etc.) That's especially true in a final match. Don't know anything about the guy Feds gunna play in the semi(assuming Robredo did lose that quarter final match.)

Yes, Potro ended up blasting Robredo in straight sets. What a demolition that was. Now he faces Federer, and as you would imagine, is 0-5 against Fed.

Federer has now reached 20 straight semifinals in Grand Slams. Thats very impressive, considering hes gone down 0-2 in sets more than a couple of times during this stretch.

SCUDSBROTHER 06-03-2009 02:53 PM

Del Potro routinely laying down in the semi or quarters against any top player. Couldn't get a set off Federer in the Australian or at Madrid. Fed is all about intimidation, confidence, n' fear. He shouldn't fear Del Potro. Should be ugly. Finals should be Federer /Sorderling. He can beat Federer if he continues to play well, but you've got to think the nerves are going to come. Federer is especially good at getting them to choke. Reminds me of the way a member of the "in crowd" in High School treats someone who is of a "lesser" status. Can tell ya one thing. If Federer wins it, the guy is gunna cry like he lost a family member.

Quick trivia question for you Scuds...if Federer does win this, he'll have won all 4 majors. Who was the last player to accomplish this feat?

NBC is terrible. They have the rights to the French Open semis and finals yet decide not to show it live on one of their other channels and tape delay the f.ucker so people can be sure to watch Dave Matthews make cat noises on the Today Show.

Match tied ... Argentine cat up a break in the third

Can't imagine Fed's gunna let this opportunity slip away...

Not only that, but they cut it off at 1:00 in the middle of the Fed/Delpo match to show Days of Our Lives. If you're not going to show the matches in their entirety, don't prevent other channels from showing them. Ridiculous.

Should be a good final

Would luv to see Fed get the career slam

LOL! This just sounds funny.
Funnier that I use to be a big fan of this show during the "Patch and Kayla" days.

Final should be good.
The kid that beat Nadal made a professional comeback in the semi.

Nadal has Federer's number now.
Nadal plays well, Federer loses.
Yes, even at the big W.

Now? Nadal has had Federer's number for the last 3 years. He owns a commanding advantage in head to heads.

Dont be so sure about Wimbledon. It's still Federer's tournament.

No he did not mentally.
Nadal may have beaten him, but Federer thought
he could beat Nadal. Federer knows he cant now
unless Nadal is way off.

Even with his tremendous ability,
Nadal has exposed the mental side of Federer.
It became clear to me in the last French Nadal destroyed
Federer. And then at Wimbledon this was born out.
Its not surprising, tennis is very tough too
stay on top of mentally.

Nadal's strength is Federer's weakness.
But I dont think Nadal will be around as long.
I think he is more likely to run into injury.

all imo opinion of course...

Coach Pants 06-06-2009 02:05 PM

Safina was content with being number 1 and didn't challenge herself mentally. What she said at the start of the tournament was flip and proved to be part of her epic choke job in another slam final.

pgardn 06-07-2009 09:28 AM

I never thought I would see anyone as personally elegant and gracious and Bjorn Borg, and then, Roger Federer showed up...

Im headed to the toilet.

Smooth Operator 06-07-2009 10:51 AM

Well, there's the career slam for the great Swiss. Only the sixth player in history to turn that trick if I'm not mistaken.

Couple that impressive achievement with the 14 Slam titles and I think we can safely hoist a cold one to the greatest player ever to step onto a tennis court...

He beats a healthy Nadal on clay, I call him the greatest of all time.

imo...
1. Borg
2. Sampras
3. The Crying Swede

Gander 06-07-2009 12:30 PM

I dont know how you can put Sampras over Federer. He never came close to winning the French Open. His best showing there was 1 semifinal. He in fact only won 2 tournaments ever on clay, 1 of them being the Italian Open, which was pretty significant, the other a US Clay tournament which isnt really a significant win at all.

Federer has reached at least the semis in the last 20 Grand Slam events. Hes went on to the finals in 19 of those. Of those 19 finals hes lost to only 1 player- Nadal, and won 14 of them. His only galring weakness is very obvious...his bad record in head to heads against Nadal. But he still has time to win 2 or 3 key matches against Nadal (preferrably at the French) to make that go away.

Greatest ever? A judgement call but to put Sampras over Federer just plain nuts.
