For whatever it's worth (surely nothing), I said I thought he was a really good one after his second race. After this third one, I'm not only predicting big things but historically significant things.

Hmmm well there goes my prediction of Tiago being horse of the year :(

I did that once with Cool Coal Man.

Oh wait. That was you. My bad.

Does the time I did that very thing with Sunday Break count?

(It might have been his 2nd career start, however.)

LOL I assume you're kidding.......

I love Jump Start, but I refuse to go gaga over this horse. He beat a bunch of nobodies (not his fault) - and I think his running style will prove to be his undoing against even cheap speed. That's the problem with horses like this - they are always going to be victimized by pace. Plus, we have seen a million and one horses like this come and go - they beat up on weak types and get crushed once they are tested. I much prefer this horse to sprint - then I think he might be ok.

The good news for you is he will probably give you the old " he got hurt " excuse so this silliness will never be definitively exposed.

I do admire your optimism. Myself I'm trying to wade my way through a bunch of $16K maiden claimers. I know where my bread is buttered.

cmorioles 02-02-2009 05:08 PM

The horse is already 4 and you expect this one to be great? How is he ever going to beat Zenyatta this year?

It would help if you and I were talking about the same horse. I like Rail Trip. Jump Start is not racing so what he can or can't do is irrelevant to this convo. And I'm going to go on a limb and guess you haven't see a million others like this one with the same amount of promise. Maybe one but not a million. I'm going to guess you haven't watched him race because the one thing that he doesn't look like is one that will be victimized by pace. Class could find him out for sure but not pace issues.

Ok, I mentioned Jump Start because I like him........therefore, I hope this colt does well. We are speaking of the same horse - I guess it's not possible to have different opinions?

King Glorious 02-03-2009 09:44 AM

It is but I just don't know what Jump Start has to do with this. What race is he running in and do you really think he can beat Rail Trip?

Unless he's lining up in the gate to face him, I just don't see what Jump Start has to do with this. Maybe I'm missing something.

It's like saying that I love Rhododendron even though she's been struggling because her dam, Mckinney, was my first favorite horse.

It's then like you asking me what Mckinney has to do with Rhododendron.

A lot, being the obvious answer.

Quite a bit, being the more subtle answer.

Even though Mckinney won't be racing against her any time soon.

dellinger63 02-03-2009 12:21 PM

and while we're at it what does Jess Jackson have to do w/Curlin?

Nothing. They never ran against each other.

Exactly. Jackson has nothing to do with Curlin's ability on the track. Just as Jump Start has nothing to do with Rail Trip's ability on the track. Just like awards shouldn't be voted on based on who a horse's owner is. On track is all that needs to be judged. Everything else is irrelevant.

Though Betsy's terribly obvious original point is still relevant, even through this pomp.

Betsy liked Jump Start. Jump Start is the sire of Rail Trip. Therefore, Betsy would like to see Rail Trip do well.

I don't see what's so incredibly difficult to understand about this basic associative statement.

Just as I don't see what's so incredibly difficult to understand what I was doing. Either way, it's not important.

LOL. Breeding doesnt matter in the horse business now??? OMG king!

People should take their mares to stallions worth $500, instead of ones worth $300,000, because it obviously means nothing in terms of performance.
