It has to be better than the Jersey circuit. Racing during the week at Monmouth is awful. Mostly cheap claimers with short fields. The turf races are good, unless they come off for weather. Not many MTO entries. Nothing gets the blood pumping like those 4 horse fields in the slop. It doesn't get any better when they go north to the Swamp. Then you have the Graded Stakes races which Chuchill had (I think) 26 in the Spring vs 13 for the Monmouth meet. I am not saying that Churchill is the greatest meet in the world, but it is definitley above the Monmouth/Meadowlands circuit. Not to mention that you get to call (argueably) the biggest race of the year (I know, not on the national telecast, blah blah blah).

I live in Jersey! About 20 minutes from Monmouth and I take my boys there all the time. I love the venue/atmosphere, but the racing on many of the days is just not good. I didn't say anything bad about Collmus. I like him very much and have had the pleasure to meet and talk to him a couple of times. He was an extremely nice guy. But with all that being said, I feel that there is no comparison between tracks. To me it's not even close.

I have never had the pleasue of meeting Mr. Stauffer, but their styles couldn't be more opposite.

I think that Collmus only seems to get excited in bigger races. He seems to be on an even keel the rest of a time. Plays it very straight.

Vic gets excited whether it's a 10k claimer or a Graded stake. He will also sometimes bring a little comedy to a call.

They both have their own styles that they are very good at. I just think that Vic is more entertaining than Larry. I think they are solid and I like them both.
