Not to mention that swamp that they run over.

Historical cache vs multi-million purses? You'd have Dubai World Cup day as the best meeting of the year I assume?
How did the track go down at Monmouth last year? At least with this turf, you don't have to go replacing and relaying it all the time.

Listen you said that you had an event similar to the breeders Cup. You dont. The races you mentioned are nice races but hardly the equal of the Breeders Cup especially in terms of monetary value. You yourself noted that you did not know much about the participants yet managed to rundown each race and the event as a whole. The Dubai World Cup is a pretty good meeting no?

Please dont send this to Churchill Downs....they may actually believe it and stop paying purses

My thoughts:

Synthetic payoffs were low, except for the Classic and the Marathon, the longest races, won by Euro shippers.Conversely, all three sprint races were won by U.S. based horses, with a horse for course, Desert Code, pulling the biggest upset in the turf sprint.

Frontrunners fared very poorly on the Pro Ride.

The grass/synthetic positive correlation was true to form this weekend at Santa Anita

you do realize there are a lot more owners without those kind of bucks than with, right? and then the jock, the groom, etc. it's not as tho those kinds of purses are handed out all day, every day, at every track.

The sad thing is that we have to wait 2 years for true dirt championships. Bringing this back to the pro-crap is a disgrace.

Frankie Dettori is a big day rider, Johnny Murtagh was not.

Murtagh really $hit the bed with his ride on SoF. K Sheas' was just as bad. Ive never seen a horse sit right off their own "rabbit". I know they ride differently over in Europe, but noone is gonna win a BC race run over here sitting up close and being put under an all out ride 5f from home.

Conduit would've have been 25-1 in Europe to bet SoF and Eagle Mountain.

Conduit was favored with the European bookmakers actually

I guess I need to start paying attn... Sure didnt look that comparable on paper to me. They bet him early and often, so I guess they knew what they had. SoF and Eagle just looked alot better on paper.

The Bid 10-27-2008 03:26 PM

Only the sharpies had that one Vol

Frankie's first two rides on Saturday were not good at all; especially on Sixties Icon...

Very difficult to argue that position judged on the evidence of this season as a whole. Murtagh has merely had fewer winners this back-end as O'Brien's horses have gone over the top.

I think his ride on 60's Icon looked a little worse than what it really was, I can see why you would think that however it seemed the horse was not as full of run as Trevor called, I also disagree with the analysis that he was stopped on the turn. He just couldn't hit the hole when Frankie got him out and that is usually a sign he had no horse. What's wrong with the ride on Diabolical?

Any chance Kinane gets back with Coolmore? He is clearly better than Murtagh in my opinion.

GPK 10-28-2008 08:13 AM

Not really defending Murtagh, but if you watch some of SoF races, while he is a very nice horse, he is pretty one paced. Not real impressive in the turn of foot department.
