I know Carla Gaines and Helen Pitts are in different areas so that's one difference but for the sake of just treating them as two good trainers and not just two good female trainers, how are they different and is one better than the other in any area?

i'm not so sure she'll get it honestly. altho she ran a great campaign all year, this isn't the same type year azeri had, where there was no clear cut top horse all year in the male division. several horses, such as street cry had their moments, but most of the top horses were done for the year really before the second half started. that combined with an upstart winning the classic is what contributed to azeri getting the nod. but unlike that year, curlin and big brown both ran well all year long-with brown only having one loss, and curlin now with two. but their losses are explainable...
now, if she gets it, you can't say she doesn't really deserve it. but i don't think it's a given.
