He is a very nice horse and could have a very good year in 2009 ( not that 2008 was bad ). One problem, however, is how poorly he ran at Gulfstream last winter and I wouldn't be surprised if they lay him up until next spring. I have no knowledge, beyond the Pegasus, of what they hope to do with him, I'm just guessing.

Nick has always been high on Coal Play and I'm glad to see that he turned things around after this winter.

Come on, man. "very nice horse'?. Yeah, give him a speed favoring track with tight turns, no pressure, (and some rain) and he's real 'good'. I'm looking over his record and trying to figure out who exactly he beat that would make him a 'nice horse'. Here it is: he finished ahead of Alaazo in the Haskel.

This is the epitome of UGLY DIRT RACING.

The plug beats 3 nothings in MTH and he gets his own thread.

no, we've seen horses manage a placing in graded stakes before, only to take a lot of money in subsequent starts and then run up the track. horses run over their head sometimes and never repeat the effort.

Yep, he ran terribly at Gulfstream...He did run second in a stakes race (forget if it was Gulfstream) to Check it Twice - I thought he was going to blow that race apart and then he collapsed. He certainly likes Monmouth, but he was very game in the Haskell and that was impressive. His pedigree says "more distance" , but CP has a lot of speed - perhaps more a miler, middle distance horse.

Then why are you posting in it? Sheesh. I like the horse and I wanted some opinions. Can you please tell me what a message board is for if not for that? I guess we should make a separate forums for Grade 1 horses, Grade 2/3 horses, allowance horses and plugs. What on earth are you so worked up about? I find it funny your practically bursting a blood vessel over this. No one said Coal Play was a great horse - and if you think he's a lousy, no-talent bum, then ok, that's your opinion.

It was the What a Pleasure Stakes at Calder. Looked like he stepped in a pothole at the 1/16th pole.
