This offseason will be a big one for him. They are free of Pedro, Alou, and El Duque and should have about $45 million to spend if they bring back Delgado. If they buy him out for $4 million then they should have $50 million to play with. Unfortunately at that point their #4 starter will be a guy in AAA with a 5.00+ ERA. If they resign Oliver he'll take up a decent chunk of that $45 million and they'll still need a fifth starter, tons of bullpen help, and likely another OF. If he blows this offseason then it's time to move on. No one can be worse than Phillips though, Kazmir for Victor Zambrano trumps all.

My favorite was when he leaked to the N.Y. press that Todd Hundley (their leading hitter) was a drunk and then evenyually ran him out of town. I still can't believe that he is an analyst on ESPN, it just blows my mind. But then again I put on NASCAR this weekend and Brad Daugherty was the analyst, go figure!

Looks like Manny heading to Dodgers now?

Aren't we passed the deadline? The Mets would have to be crazy to let Manny clear waivers to be able to be traded after the deadline.

I saw it posted on an MLB.com site..probably pure rumor, and it would have to occured before the deadline because he would never clear waivers, you're right

That's true, just seems amazing they got that far past 4 without it leaking.

Scuds will like it

The trade as reported looks like a great deal for pittsburgh, ok for Boston and a disaster for LA.

GBBob 07-31-2008 04:13 PM

Looking at their pics, it's like Ward Cleaver being traded for Snoop Dog

Wow. I cant believe Boston just gave up what all of that for Bay.

Like him or hate him, Manny is one of the most feared hitters in the game.

Gales, you were right.

Bye Bye Bo Sox.

Manny is slipping and his attitude sucks, he is a nightmare on the bases and his fielding is dreadful. He is going to be 37 and simply forced their hand with his actions. Bay's peak is obviously not near manny's but at this point he is a fine replacement and getting rid of Manny is addition by subtraction.

I strongly disagree. Regardless of all those factors that you mention, and i really dont debate the fielding and base running, Manny is still a force in the middle of the order. Some of Manny's value is less tangible in that sense. Even at 36, he still strikes fear as the anchor to this lineup.

If you are Girardi, are you really going to have much trouble instructing your reliever in the 8th of a tight game to pitch around Pappi to get to...Jason Bay????????????

Manny is one of the few hitters in the game that can singlehandedly power an offense. He is still that good.

Giant hole in the middle of the Sox order now.

Come back later for your goat,

I dont' care how you get here,

just- get here if you can"

LOL...Can't remember the lyrics...FCK PIERRE...FCK ANDRUW....Kemp in Center, Ethier in right, and funny hair in left. Latins are usually happy here. I want to be the bug on the wall when Kent and Manny meet.
