Speaking of Commentator, has there been a pg1985 sighting since his Cowboy Cal-Court Vision exacta came up like 13th and 18th on Derby day?

pick4 05-22-2008 05:38 PM

I don't recall Commentator ever running in the Met Mile. Nick Zito trained Sun King ran in the 2006 and 2007 editions.

blackthroatedwind 05-22-2008 05:57 PM

That's because he has never run in the Met.

Based on what?

First Defence got slaughtered in the Vosburgh and Divine Park has run exactly one decent race in his life. Nobody is saying Commentator doesn't have his limitations, but he has a resume which includes a handful of races that are significantly better than any race these horses have run.......but apparently they are " just as good. "

Both are 4YOs, who could improve, and Commentator is a 7YO with a lifetime of injuries. However, like or not, he's done it....and they haven't.

Based on my opinion. I think Commentator is only capable of a big race under perfect circumstances, while the other two can adapt and still run fast races. That makes them better to me. I like judging horses based on things other than speed figures.

It would be nice to see native New Yorker Nick Zito win the Met Mile with a Tracy Farmer owned horse. The 2006 Met Mile was a heartbreaking loss when Silver Train held off the closing Sun King.

I'm sorry you hate Commentator. It must make it hard for you to get through the day.

I bet Bobby Frankel ( ya know....he trains First Defence...when Dixie is unavailable ) and Kiaran McKlaughlin would laugh at your assertions. The fact is that Commentator has run many races better than either of the supposed better horses you unobjectively called better. Divine Park had a dream trip in his one good race. The rest of his races are somewhere between marginal and horrible. First Defence, so far, has disappointed in any real test he has had, save perhaps the King's Bishop. Comparing them to Commentator is beyond laughable.

When you get the pps for the Met Mile I suggest you take a good look at them. Have a self relflective moment.....and see just how ridiculous your statement was.

blackthroatedwind 05-22-2008 06:24 PM

Furthermore.......if all three horses were to get their preferred set ups.....who do you think would win?

Take a breath Andy, it's a freaking opinion. Obviously I don't think either of them will beat Commentator if he's loose on the lead, and when he gets his own way, great, he runs fast times, but it's lame to say that he's better because he's got a bunch of big speed figures under perfect circumstances. I think consistent, if slightly slower horses are better than faster horses that need about seven horizontal lines in their past performances.

You make early judgments all the time.. "Harlem Rocker.. This is a very serious three-year-old".. You don't know that ****, but it's your opinion, and I'm not gonna step in and say "No, he isn't."

Like it or not, Joey, I have a record to back up my opinions. You don't.

So I guess I'm not allowed to have them? Didn't realize that's how this worked.

You playing the victim? Do the boys in Brooklyn know about this?

Your " opinion " in this case is indefensible. Take a look at the relative pps, and as hard as it is try to forget how much you hate Commentator, and tell me seriously on Monday ( you're coming out....right? ) that you think they have form to back up that they are better horses.

Divine Park, if he continues to run like he did last time, might be ( at least now ). Who knows, First Defence, under Dixie's excellent tutelage, could impove. But, so far, Commentator has walked the walk....and they haven't.

This can't be used against him. I mean, Grasshopper, for example, had a comparable trip. The horse 'wipes them out' with an accelerating last quarter and you're putting the perfect trip tag on him?

It all depends on your definiton of "better", but I'm too exhausted to go down that road with you again. If your only criteria for judging performance is speed figures, then of course Commentator is better.

And I'm well-acquainted with his PP's, so a look at the Met Mile PP's won't tell me anything other than that he's going to run another 115-120 figure when allowed everything his own way. **** is boring to me, really. Maybe it gives Andy Beyer an erection, but not me.

I still think Divine Park and First Defence are as good as him, if not better. Sorry.

And yeah, I'll be out there on Monday with my old man. Hope to see ya.

Yeah, silly me, I only look at speed figures.

You, on the other hand, might want to take accomplishments into account. First Defence has none.

As for being sorry......it's an interesting choice of words.

XIIPointStables 05-22-2008 07:13 PM

I've always been a fan of First Defence. Ran his guts out against Hard Spun at Saratoga. Got a good set up; never able to get all the way by and HS won it. Great throwdown in the stretch between those two.

I'm excited to see how he runs at a mile.

If Commentator is allowed to wheel it on the front, as much as I like First Defence, he's running for second. We'll see if anyone goes with Commentator early.
