Perhaps you shouldn't be in such a "big hurry." ;)

la troienne and mumtaz mahal immediately jump to mind.

more modern?

how about hasili? dam of cacique, intercontinental, dansili, banks hill, and heat haze--all gr 1 winners.

toussaud, weekend surprise have been mentioned--but how about personal ensign? not just a great racer, but a blue hen mare as well.

Errrrrrnnnnttttt !!! [sound of "wronmg" buzzer]

Sorry ... Big Hurry was by Black Toney.

sumitas 07-19-2006 04:04 PM

on pedigreequery.com any mare with an asterisk next to her name denotes a reines de course. that means she was a producer of great repute.

My personal favs are Somethingroyal (dam of Secretariat), La Troienne, Shenanigans, Jameela...there are so many and they are just as important in breeding as the sires.

No **** shirlock... I already posted the link to BUSINESSLIKE's pedigree. Perhaps you should read before you post. I'm no idiot... don't treat me like one.

The thing about Mumtaz Mahal and La Troienne is that they're still very influential today ... 75 years later.

The more modern broodmares ... like the great ones you've mentioned ... will have to stand the test of time before they can join them in the pantheon.

sumitas 07-19-2006 04:10 PM

and i'll tell ya, it's very tough to find any mares tail female from the 6-e family back to Selene. Selene is a huge influence for good racing.

I'm sorry ... that's also a wrong answer.

Cursing and personal attacks are always wrong.

Maybe you should have provided this link ... http://www.tbheritage.com/Portraits/LaTroienne.html

The correct answer is ... Big Event and Businesslike were the first two foals ... of an eventual six ... produced by Blue Larkspur and La Troienne. Their other foals were Broke Even, Bee Ann Mac, Belle Histoire, and Belle Of Troy.

La Troienne was owned by Col. Bradley ... and he gave all his horses names which began with the letter "B." Many of today's champions and graded stakes winners trace directly back to La Troienne ... eighty years after she herself was born.

Please take the time to read all about her on the provided link.

Exactly ... Selene's influence has been huge ... but it's mostly through her sons ... and it's sadly fading away ... or at least just boiling down to the Native Dancer line.

She's probably #3 on the list of great broodmares.

sumitas 07-19-2006 04:46 PM

interesting about Somethingroyal in that she was the oldest mare to produce a triple crown champion, Secretariat at the age of 18 i think. she only made one appearance on the track. unplaced at Saratoga.

You're ridiculous. I know about La Troienne. You like pushing people's buttons... and I refuse to let you do it to me. Businesslike was very important because she had Busanda who was the the mother of Buckpasser. It's obvious that La Troienne was influential. Please tell me something that nobody else would know and information besides info that can be found on pedigreequery.com.

My faves

Growing up and going to racing in New York in the late 70s and 80s my two favorite barns were Darby Dan and Rokeby.

Thus, i would have to go with Flower Bowl who sired Graustark and His Majesty within the Darby Dan side and,

Glowing Tribute who sired Sea Hero, Hero's Honor, Wild Applause and Eastern Echo for Rokeby...

Yipes !!!

Did you forget that Flower Bowl also produced Hall Of Fame filly Bowl Of Flowers ... or was that because she was owned by Brookmeade?

That response is also wrong. The link I provided was to "tbheritage" ... not to "pedigreequery."

Sorry ... that was your third incorrect response ... I'm afraid I have to disqualify you.
