i think the thing that really catches my eye tho in the SS/EG preakness is that they were in step with each other. you don't get it any closer than those two did without a dead heat. a bit longer nose for one...a bit of bad luck for the other.

Ah know. I was an Easy Goer fan. :(

Let Goodtimes Roll is a sire now and I hit a nice one when I bet a horse sired by him. I figured he wouldn't let anyone pass and he didn't.

btw.. I noticed they finally had to put a wire mesh around his mouth so he couldn't do that.

pgardns rule while in barn:

never turn your back on a horse in a stall unless
more than a neck+head distance away.
Also never wear running shoes in barn.
Black toenails fall off after stepped on.

Was tightening the girth on one of the school horses at the UK (Univ of Ky) stable several decades ago, when Bruno decided he'd had enough of this, turned around and tried to take a piece out of the back of my thigh. Fortunately it was wintertime and I had heavy jeans on so he didn't draw blood, but I had a huge mouth-shaped black bruise for several months.

Ah, the 'Fighting Finish' of the 1933 Kentucky Derby. Broker's Tip and Head Play going eye-to-eye while Don Meade and Herb Fisher go mano-a-mano.

The mutuals are a bit of an eye-opener:
Broker's Tip paid $19.86, $6.28 and $4.54. Looks like they hadn't discovered 'breakage' yet.

And that Derby victory for Broker's Tip was his only career win.
