The same goes for Gaffney's at night. It's WAY too crowded. If you are looking for a nice bar to just chill and relax Parting Glass and Gafney's are not it.
But I would still check out those places during the day if you aren't at the track. There are wonderfull.

I'm 29 and the Parting Glass is my FAVORITE! Yes, crowded... but filled with racing memorabilia and definitely a beer lover's paradise. I can't find a lot of those beers elsewhere.

Check with Byk....he can recommend this wonderful place that charges $15 for a house salad and $13 for a side plate of brocolli.

I have a client in Chicago. He and his wife were in Miami Beach so I offered to buy them dinner, their choice of restaurant. We went to a french place called Evolution. We had the "tasting menu." $650 for the 4 of us, including tip. They brought out small pieces of food I could barely see. The chef stopped by the table and asked me to describe my "experience." I told him that where I come from the portions he served are commonly referred to as "bait." After "dinner," drove straight to Wolfy Cohen's Rascal House deli and got a rare roast beef which I happily ate on the drive home. Live and learn.

The waitress brought to our table one of the chefs "creations." He put a small (one bite) piece of roast beef on a Ruffles-like potato chip, and topped it with horseradish, I guess. This was supposed to be a master creation! And the portions sizes would leave a squirrel hungry. I couldn't believe that there was a market for a place like this in the woods of Massachusetts. I think it had a French sounding name, too?

Is there a pattern here?

I do have to say one of the best apps I ever had was roast duck with a very light drizzle of some sort of sweet sauce on a sweet potatoe chip....at least I think it was meant for an app. ;)

Bullshit, if I didn't go pull the menu and take a look, people would have had a coniption fit about $12 onions or whatever the **** they were. I should be considered a SAVIOR

Well to set the record straight.....

I was there. You really need to picture this. We pull up to what could pass for a French country house which is what it was, an incredible old house, white two story, out in the country, with portico, just smells of class and money. So we go in and fill the entry area of the place, and a number of us gradually looked at each other and our sweaty baseball caps, shorts and t-shirts, and subliminally consider the fact that we had not had any alchohol in like 30 minutes and we are probably certain to grab a wine list, after martini's for all 15 of us (my guess) and do serious damage. We looked at the blue blood crowd with many in coat and tie, white table clothes, candles, checked out the menu and did a little math, and said "this is a potential debacle". This was just a classic replay of the Blues Brothers who show up in the french place in Chicago, and get loaded and say "the little girl, how much for the women?"

To the credit of the nice folks who run the place, they were game, but after everyone agreed this was not the place to spread out the form for the next day, I was the one who offered our apologies for their efforts to seat us.

Anyway, all was well, we found a wonderful place that was more than prepared for the DT groove.

I/L :)
