I wish she'd come to Ellis Park this summer. I'd enjoy watching her ride.

Just my 2 cents...Chantal was my jockey for one of the horses I previously was part owner of...Fighting Speedy. I think we had her on the horse like 3 or 4 times and never won. We made the change to Johnny V at Saratoga and bingo, big win in an allowance race. Then we made the move to Pablo Fragaso and Speedy won 3 more races in short order moving up the NW2-NW3-and NY Stakes races.

There was a lot of owner controversy about changing from CS, but in the end it worked out for us. She did do very well at the SAR meet riding for the Chief and others, bringing in some bombs. I can't figure out why she was not more consistant here at Belmont. Looked like maybe she lost confidence that she had built up at SAR.

On a personal note, she was a good professional jockey, always taking time to talk to fans, our owners and their families in the paddock, and especially the kids when we brought them to AM workouts. I wish her all the best in her native Canada!

Out of curiosity, what's going on with Chris McCarron's school? Are there many women involved in the program? There are clearly examples of both good and bad female jockeys just like with men so I get frustrated when the ones making the news are like Chantal. It just confirms in the minds of some chauvinists that women can't do it. Sharp minds and intuition are important in getting the best out of your mount and some women can manage the physical demands. If you doubt that, look at female bodybuilders and gymnasts. Surely there are some that just need the right opportunity like that training program.

I think that most people have moved beyond the sex of a jockey. There are some good, young women jockeys that are going to do well.

I know that the school is open and that there are female students. There were stories in the Kentucky papers, and pictures, but they may not still be available.
